Ryobi CL score

These have been on CL for about a month, started at $85 – not a good deal. About 2 weeks later dropped to $65 – thought maybe I’d stop there and get it down some but work and life got in the way. Checked the ad Thursday (6/8) and it was at $40. But my truck was apart and I figured they would be gone by Friday. They weren’t, grabbed the g/f’s car when she got home in the AM. Tested the tools – didn’t bother to haggle.

The laser guide circular saw is an upgrade to what I have now.
I didn’t have an 18v sander or jig saw or Dust Vac – now I do.
Reciprocating saw and Drill will be used and my others will be backups.
Old style charger and flashlight will probably sell/trade.
Battery which he told me is dead – maybe I’ll use for a rebuild.

Yes the LI batteries work on the older tools - very well BTW. Been using them for a few years now on the older tools. That's why I really don't care about the older charger and battery.

Take that dead battery, gut the contents, and connect the terminals inside the shell to an 18V (or 19.5V) laptop power supply output. I've picked up several laptop power supplies that they were discarding at work and I'm going to use one for this myself.

Then, go to Home Depot and buy the 2-pack of the large size lithium 18V batteries for around $100. You won't have any run time issues with these batteries.

Take that dead battery, gut the contents, and connect the terminals inside the shell to an 18V (or 19.5V) laptop power supply output. I've picked up several laptop power supplies that they were discarding at work and I'm going to use one for this myself.

Let us know how that works out. Many laptop power supplies only output in the neighborhood of ~3 amps, and what I've read is that level of output is insufficient for a lot of power tools.

Yep, also buying a tool combo kit is a great way to get some more batteries.

Here's the powerful impact driver (1,500 in-lbs), regular drill, 2 batteries, charger for $99. The batteries are the lower capacity ones, but there are 2 of them. Having 2 regular drills is a time saver. You can keep a drill bit on one and a driver bit on the other. And the impact will power through anything.

These newer lithium batteries will work on the older blue Ryobi tools. Basically getting a complete lineup of tools for less than $150 total is a great deal. The Ryobi Bluetooth jobsite radio is a good addition, too. I bought a new one for $20 off ebay (sans battery). I use mine a lot not just while working. I turn it on while grilling.

Well, our workplace is moving so there are dumpsters full of surplus electronic stuff going out right now - I've snagged a couple of larger 19.5VDC power supplies that have 15-20A outputs on them, which I'm sure will be sufficient for any cordless power tool.
