I just came across an OLD Ryobi 18 volt drill motor and the battery is shot won't charge,,,,,,, and my question is will the NEW batteries fit and operate my old drill ?
That's the beauty of their system. I needed a Cordless hammer drill, so I bought one of the old blue 18v 2 speed hammer drills for cheap on ebay and runs great with my li-ion batteries.Yep, I just tossed seven of the yellow-and-black NiCads. Right now, the old blue Ryobi 18V tools are going for peanuts on craigslist, because all the batteries are toast and the new LiOns are seemingly too expensive. I've picked up so many I'm tripping over them. Only one I haven't found for cheap is the impact.

If you watch home Depot, sometimes they have the big 4ah li-ion batteries with a "free" one in the pack. $99 for 2.
I picked up my last one up in store off the shelf. Unless it was an online return. This seems to be a perpetual homedepot.com item. It's up there right now, and has been for many months.

Now that I think about it, I can't remember when I bought mine but I ordered it online but picked it up same day at the store. So it could have been a leftover deal. It was a couple years ago. But I could be wrong on that as well!I'm not saying they're never in stores, but they're not there consistently. Neither of my "local" stores have any in stock, and per the website's inventory checker a few weeks ago, none of the others in the area had them either.
They seem to be a Black Friday item that potentially lasts a few weeks after Black Friday, but they've been consistently available on the website for longer.
Per the website today:

"This product isn't currently sold in stores"
But, you can buy online and have shipped to the store if you don't want it shipped directly to your house for some reason.
I'd be all over that deal! The last three fathers days, or shortly after, I have picked up the two pack 4ah for fifty bucks.
