I've had mine for a while now and I love it. Some of the larger things I've used it on have been lugnuts (from compact cars to F250 Super Duty), mower blades(1" bolts on a 60" zero turn), driving large lag screws etc. It obviously wont completely replace a pneumatic impact, but I tend to grab the Ryobi over my IR for quick projects, or most things under 19mm. It's also amazing for working on things away from the garage. Mine's been used at friend's houses, on the tractor out in the field, and helped someone change a spare on the side of the road (makes a scissor jack work amazing).

Couple things I've noticed with mine after using it; The LED lights come on before the anvil moves, and say on 7-10 seconds after you release the trigger. Great for working up under a vehicle or at night. Also the 3-speeds have been quite useful, especially when assembling things. Don't need full power when running 10mm bolts back in.

If you're thinking about it, I'd say go for it, especially if your invested in the Ryobi line.

I just recently got one.

Haven't used it a ton, but the few uses have impressed me. I'm happy with it.

This is a slam dunk buy. For automotive use I have yet to encounter a bolt this would not free up. I have the Ridgid version of this gun, and it is awesome. If you get it make sure you have at least a 4.0 ah battery or the tool will not perform the 300ft/lbs, and the the battery drains excessively fast with the compact batteries. Its lightwieght, fairly compact, and comfortable. I say go for it. If you don't have Ryobi batteries or other tools, the craftsman impact is the same tool. If you get the kit it comes with a 4.0 ah battery for less money than the the Ryobi, and Ridgid tool, and seems more readily available at sears.

Anyone explain why some on-line retailers have this 'factory reconditioned" for $55 and Home Depot says out-of-stock-on-line at $119

A friend ordered a reconditioned one and it appeared new in every respect. We couldn't see any evidence of it ever being used.

One explanation I've heard is they're store returns. Any others?

just bought this and and I'm really impressed, I'm just using the slim battery and I was able to rotate a set of 4 tires from a civic, went to the JY also last friday with it to take out some sway bars from a honda civic and with 6 pieces 19mm bolt on the frame and 4 17mm on the control arm, no problem still have a lot of juice on the battery. and one thing really nice is that it has a 3 speed settings.

I actually got it from Home depot here in Canada for $104 plus tax, which I find cheaper than the home depot US 119+tax, with the US exhange rate really high right now, I think it is a good buy rather than going across the border to get them, this price might not last long probably because I think the adjustment on the US exchange rate might reflect it on the price later.

If you like the gun, with the compact battery, wait until you get a 4.0ah battery. The difference is very apparent. With a civic the only thing I can think of that is really hard to break is the crank bolt. Other than that you may be fine. I don't know how much you use your tools or if you have other ryobi tools, but if you use them regularly you'll see they perform much better with the larger battery.

FYI - Went to home depot this weekend and found the Impact in a Kit with a high capacity Lithium Battery and an IntelliPort charger. Which worked great for me since I was going to have to buy a battery and a dual chemistry charger.

Sold under number P1830.

Now that you have the charger and batteries, may as well pick up some other Ryobi goodness -- 1/4" compact impact driver for drilling/fastening (refurb for $40 on ebay or other places), $29 jobsite radio, recip/circ saws. The lanterns and flashlights are dirt cheap and good to keep in the house for power outages.

I love my Ryobi 18V tools. They've paid for themselves 10 times over. I need to get that HD impact wrench, now.
