Ryobi replacement parts

I’ll say at the outset, this is just a b!tch session.

I have ended up with lots of ryobi tools. Mostly the 18 volt stuff because I can solar charge it with their 12V charger out at my remote cabin. Works great. The tools punch above their weight for the price and I don’t have to worry too much about them breaking or getting stolen. If I get a cabin worth of use out of them, I’m good. But so far, nothing has worn out or failed.

I dipped my toe into the cordless chainsaw world by getting a little ryobi chain saw. Surprisingly, it was great. The 12” saw was happily cutting 14” post oak that was long since dead and dry. Sweet. And it’s tiny for use on all sorts of small brush clearing.

Ended up bending the bar. No big deal. I was abusing the carp out of it.

And replacement parts are not available. Really? Even for a relatively new brushless model?

Just a big f you from Ryobi. Disappointing. All the pages read like this one.

Ridiculous, a chain saw throwaway???

Can you use a few big C clamps, some spacer blocks, and a large flat piece of steel, angle iron preferred, and straighten the bar.?

That stinks... I'm on the 40v platform and was planning to get one of the chainsaws at some point. Now you've got me second guessing that idea if replacement parts are tough to get. If anything, thanks for the heads up.

I may be able to salvage the bar but it keeps kicking off the chain.

I started looking into other brands for replacement but it got more complex than I was aware.

Particularly with regard to the bar mount type. I’ll have to take it off and visually compare with stuff I can find in tractor supply.

Yeah. I just got my first 40V ryobi thing.

My brief experience has me sold on electric chainsaws 100%.

This little ryobi was a cheap experiment since I could use all my 18V power packs.

I may go with something nice and supported for the adult chainsaw. Maybe stihl if I’m feeling rich.

I had an 18V 120W inverter die recently and it was still under warranty. I contacted Ryobi and they said they did not have any available, but could offer a refund. I accepted and immediately went to Home Depot for a replacement (they showed over 400 in stock online). A couple of weeks later, Ryobi contacted me saying they found some more inverters and wondered if I still wanted one. I told them that I had replaced it and wanted a refund now. They acknowledged and I'm still waiting for the refund to arrive.

Keep trying with them and they might be able to get you the part in time.

The deal with a chainsaw is that I need/expect it last 10-20 years. My Stihl from the early 90’s is still plugging along.

For the $50 dollar drill, I don’t give a flip.

Since the big electric chain saw is going to be $350 to $600, I need brand that will provide replacement parts long term.

That brand is not Ryobi.

At least a few of the models I've looked at can use Oregon bars and chains which are probably way better than the stock bar. Just put in the model number into Amazon and you will likely find a review where someone found a replacement that works.

Well , I sent Ryobi an email with my concerns.

Looks like they understand that no replacement parts after a year or two isn’t a great situation.

They are sending me a replacement current model.

Can’t complain about that.
