My blue tools impact/drill got a boost in performance when the old nicads were dumped and rejuvenated with new lithium batteries
Same with me, built extensions on my house and loads of other projects with the blue tools. They were getting near to not usable but the new batteries transformed them. Really good value for money!

I’ve been Ryobi 18v for about 20 years now (I also use Milwaukee‘s 12v system). I went to it bc of the long term battery compatibility and range of products (auto, lawn, and woodworking) at the time that I was making a choice. For me, the batteries begin to show decreased capacity and a become not useful around the 10-12 year mark. I think I currently have 7-ish batteries that I rotate through.

Before that it was a Porter Cable 18v and a craftsman 12v, and so I was a little sour when those companies that ended their respective battery platforms.

@OneEyedMan, unless you already made your purchase, you might want to wait.

HFT just dropped this 12 days of deals for this coming Saturday (12/13/2025):

I don't know what the choices will be yet, but of the seven 20v tools, chances are there will be a grinder and/or impact in there.

10 years is great battery life IMO; I'd be very happy with that- not sure your thoughts. You got your money's worth.

I got about 8-10 years out of my first NiCad DeWalt batteries; they were all done by year 10. I'm at five years on my new 20V DeWalt batteries so I hope to get at least 8 years out of them.

Obviously, the Makita fans will now tell us how they've been using the same batteries 24/7/365 for 15 years and they're still at 99% capacity and none have ever failed :ROFLMAO:
