Just out "looking" at tool chests and came upon a S & K 40" "professional" at Acme Tools. They said they are not going to stock the larger tool boxes and this is the last item they have in stock. The price tag says # S650 86075 and it claims List of $1650 and sale price of $870. Closeout tag dated August '07. Chest looks fine...missing the left hand "handle"...which I imagine could be replaced? It is Red in color.

I tried to search S & K and come up with some very different looking tools...not the red color at all.

Anyone know the above unit? Does S & K have multiple lines? Part number mean anything or is it an Acme #?

Unit is nearly exactly what I am looking for but not sure if I am better off with a Proto/Northern Tool or another mid level brand NEW...or should I try to negotiate a bit lower price and chase down the S & K?

Thanks...Tom R

A pic might help for those of us not up to speed on what this looks like, without one I hesitate to comment!

Trying to upload...hey it worked. I think the red unit at the store had slightly different drawer config...and was red. This is S & K #86075 that I found on sjdiscounttools web site. Same number as the Acme store item. Price was listed as $1717 down from $1998.

ANy help? Tom R

I am betting it is made by the same makers of International, Napa, etc. There is a guy in town that buys a lot of their diplay/promos, and sells them, and I BELIEVE he had a box with that logo too.

If that is indeed the same as International, they're charging way too much.

That's my fear. It does not "seem" particularly better quality than the many other brands in the price tier where the NEW price before and discount is at or a bit lower than the discount price on this S K.

I thought S K was a premium brand near the Snap On/Mac level?

Thanks...Tom R

Anyone have any further comments on the "value" of a 40" S & K marked down from "retail" of $1,700-$1,800 to $870???

Is this a "better" quality than the HF 40" base unit at $399????
Who makes the S & K?...and are they just one of the "many" or are they actually a better quality and worth the higher pricing?

Thanks...Tom R
