S-K 45170 stuck in neutral

Took the mechanism out to clean and re-lube and now the pawl won't come out of the neutral position. Anyway to get it unstuck?

Also any way to date it? It says PS where you squeeze the clip together. This ratchet is awesome. Was my Grandfathers go to for many years before it became my Dad's.

What did you lube it with?

The ratchets are pretty much bulletproof.

Sounds like you misaligned the pawl when you were putting it back together.

Did not get to lube it yet. Put selector on and It is still **** and will move very little.

What he said. If it worked before you took it apart, you put the selector switch cap on wrong.

Still no luck. I have very little play with the switch either way the cap is put on.

Pay attention to this. He's on the right track.

It's actually a little pin, not a ball, on this ratchet design. But you're basically right.

To the OP-
Did you disassemble the mechanism or just take the mechanism out of the ratchet and clean it? In my experience, don't take apart an SK mechanism beyond pulling it out of the ratchet and cleaning it.

You need to take the mechanism out and make sure the pin is pushing against the back of the pawl as it should. With the mechanism out you should be able to see why the lever won't move.

Call me crazy but if it worked before you took it apart and nothing is broken how is getting a rebuild kit going to solve your problem ?

This was just a simple clean and re-lube. Did not disassemble further. Looking at it the pin is stuck to one side, What now? The pawl pin is also not coming out and seems to be stuck.

Push the pin back in and see if you can move the lever back into place. If I'm understanding what you're saying, that should fix it. See the instructions attached to my previous post.

Like the others have said you need to make sure that everything is back in place before you try to put the cap on and reassemble it.

I paid $2 for my 45170 last month.

Needed love.

Sat in a new bath of Castrol ATF Type F for 2 weeks but pulled ratchet and let drain every 2 days.

Now works like a hoss.

I was hedging on breaking it down and relubing but due to era i just went with the bath.

My research puts many of them at 60's/70's/80's era without the S-K logo in the diamond.

Others here know much more than me.
