Hi All,
Picked up an S-K 73514 Magnetic screwdriver in a box lot of tools via CL and I have a question or two. Should not be stumped by a screwdriver but I am.
There were no bits with it and I was wondering if the bits are different than the normal hex shanked bits found on everything else?

The end of the shaft where the bits would go in is round, not hex shaped.A standard hex bit does not fit in the opening. The opening is smaller than a hex bit and very round. I could understand if it was worn and the tip was wallowed out and would not hold a bit but from my attempts a bit will not go in.

The magnet is strong, rest of the tool is clean.I'd hate to just regulate it to a short magnetic pick up tool but that may just be it's fate.

I have unsuccessfully tried to get a close up photo but cannot get anything to show with enough clarity to post here.
Here is an image from Ebay showing the style with the shank in two diameters which the

newer models are smooth ,one diameter.

Thanks,
Andy

just kidding. Get a good distance away from it and take a picture with and without flash. It'll probably suffice

I had one of those as a newb mechanic in the early 80's. As I recall it took regular hex bits and they were stored in the handle, but the steel was kinda soft. I didn't take much to tweak the shaft. Wouldn't be surprised if the mag end is distorted.

Here are some pics attempting to show the defect/damage end in question.
I don't see any mushrooming/hammering general abuse that would scream out that it has been wailed on or misused in the past. There is a slight amount of rust/discoloration on the shaft.Maybe it was bashed then ground/cleaned afterwards. I do not feel that I am entitled to a replacement from SK as I am not the original owner and I don't know how/when/where the defect arrived.
