I picked this S-K set up today at a local antiques shop. The metal label inside the case reads S-K TOOLS Chicago, Ill 60632

Its a 1/4" Drive Metric set with a 40 tooth round head ratchet wrench marked S-K USA 45170 USA on one side and Pat. No. 2232477 on the other side.

All the sockets are 6-point type with dual line band in 300 series starting with 7m/m and continuing with, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 m/m then skips to 15 m/m and a 17m/m.

Included is a short extension #45159 S-K USA and a 13/16 Spark plug socket # 4426 S-K USA.

How old is this set and what pieces are missing/needed to complete?

Thanks for info.

I would say from the Seventies and a 6 inch extension for sure and 14mm and 19mm sockets to make complete older sets never had 16 and 18 sockets

Sorry guys, but I see I didn't add that all the sockets are stamped S-K WAYNE.

Does that pin-point their date better?

Yes, SK Wayne was 1962-1968.

It is not uncommon to find transitional sets that have several stampings of tools in them. Your box looks more recent like it was made slightly after 1968. There are boxes that say SK-Wayne in green and blue colors. Your set may be missing the 6" extension.

Well for one thing that appears to be a 3/8" drive size set not 1/4" drive. The 45170 is a 3/8" ratchet and all the sockets and the spark plug socket appear to be 3/8" drive also.

Great find otherwise. $12 is a steal. It'll last forever.

As an aside my first socket set was a 1/4" drive SAE set given to me by my father @ 1968. All marked SK Wayne. Still have the ratchet and some of the sockets.

I think :headscrat S-K changed their HQ to Franklin Park in early 1971. So, your box is 1969 to 1971.
Since Wayne sold out to Dresser Industries in 68-69, your set could be an aforementioned transitional set from that 2-3 year period (68 to 71).

I have an S-K deep metric socket set I bought new and it didn't include a 16 or 18mm socket.

With a spark plug socket I think there would have been a 6 in extension.

Nice pick up.

Yes, its a 3/8" set. I typed 1/4" when describing the set for some reason? :lol_hitti
