Does anyone know vintage of when S-K tool box logos changed from yellow painted background to yellowish/goldish chrome back ground.

They went from a paper type transfer decal to a metal badge after WWII, in 1946 or 1947. If that's what you're asking. Check with d42jeep (Don) or the other SK aficionados on the SK thread for a more detailed answer, because there were a few variations of the metal badge. There is an A-Z Index of threads in the Sticky at the top of the forum. Click on the SK link.

As Lugz says, they changed to a riveted on metal logo right after WW2. Prior to that the labels were water transfers (decals). Around 1958 the logo changed from the one you posted to one without the up arrow. There are exceptions during the S-K/Lectrolite collaboration but it mostly stayed that way until around 1964 when the S-K Wayne markings started.

Thank you both for your responses. I was concerned about the change from paint to chrome being date sensitive, but logo design trumps that I think.
