S-K tuff 1 ratchets extinct....

My 3/8 dr. S-K tuff 1 ratchet quit ratcheting. Looked up S-K tools online and to my surprise they have done gone extinct....

So, I E-mailed S-K's customer service with the ratchet rebuild kit part number 45175-2 and ratchet number 45175 from an old S-K catalog and asked them what my options where with a supposedly extinct tool.

I have other 3/8 dr. ratchets, but this old S-K ratchet witch came as a complete S-K set of 6 point regular and deep well standard sockets 1, 4 and 6 inch extensions and a snazzy green crinkle S-K metal box for a 12 or 13th birthday gift from my ol'man along with assorted harbor freight tools. The S-K set was my favorite out of the whole mix of tools.... and I am still using them to this day, Even some of the cheaper tools that have made it.....

I bet you can get those repair kits from Proto...............same Facom built ratchet.

I think SK still backs the tuff1 ratchets, as far as a rebuild kit. I have several myself and love them.

The rebuild kits are still readily available, via proto and facom. Excellent rats btw.

Thanks for the reply's fellas Nice to know of other people who share a tool affinity such as I do....

When the tuff 1 was working it it was one of the smoothest ratchets in the 3/8's collection.

I did a little more look'n and did find out there are rebuild kits readily available all over the place from different sources online....

I'd rather buy a good tool once, than replace/rebuild a lesser one several times over. This S-K ratchet definitely has done that.... Darn fine ratchets they are.

I've had the Proto branded version in my roadbox for quite a while and its been through hell and back. Just wish the direction selector was like the S-K branded one.

I was not aware that proto had a similar version of the tuff1 pumpman..... Hate to ask but do you have a pic of the ratchet?

My tuff1 has seen action on ALL the vehicles I have ever owned and was with me when I mechanic'd for a few years at a tractor dealership.

Good to hear they are good with warranty stuffs

I have a small collection of S-K tools, lots of sockets, misc wrenches and screw drivers but this is the first item I have had to warranty of an S-K tool EVER ..... Not bad for almost 30 year run on a ratchet.

Cannot say that about other 3/8 dr ratchets or even sockets of other U.S.A made tools (crapsman, napa even snap-on) I use and are considerably younger to boot

I would buy S-K tools a lot more and did a while back, but the stores that sold them around here seem to have went away from them.... Damn fools The way companies are going overseas any more and quality being varied, its good to know there is still a few 'good ones' left......

Nice.... I love my old S-K. I've had the 3/8" set for over 40 years. Still have most of the original sockets. Had to finally rebuild the ratchet a few years ago. Damn fine tools, as good as any out there......

Yes, fine ratchets they are.

I have only had the tuff1 ratchet for nearly 30 years.... They just don't build things like they use too, comparing the tuff1 to my other 3/8 dr ratchets.... OR the sockets that came with it compared to other 3/8 dr sockets I also own.

Got the rebuild kit today, installed it should be good for another hundred thousand..... Nice tiny crisp clicks

Need an S-K truck around here, I would buy all sorts of S-K tools.
