S-K Wayne mystery

I've been searching for over a year for a 1" knurled socket in 1/2" drive. Every set I've seen has all the knurled sizes in Wayne except for the 1" which is regular S-K. Can any of the S-K experts out there shed some light on this if it was made? Or should I just give up looking ?

Never give up, never surrender!

I just found some NOS Bonney wrenches I've been looking for for 10 years! You keep looking, and scrounging, and beating around the bushes - and eventually you'll find what you want for a price you're willing to pay. :D

These were very very rare owning thousands of knurled sockets and only ever coming across 10 of these. They were ran for under a year when the Wayne bought the company they thought it would be better with out the knurling I sold some to someone on eBay it may have been you

Thanks guys! New to this forum, and this Tap-a-talk thing, so please forgive any indiscretions. I'm wondering if some of the senior members might want to start a thread on this ? And and any other hard to find items. Maybe there's been one like this previous. I have some OLD and RARE stuff, just a rookie middle -aged A/C mechanic who just got sick of seeing imported **** and the decline of US made quality tools. I talked to a customer today who told me he has some old Bonney screwdrivers from when he was a kid...??? Could this be true ?, never seen one.

It would be helpful to the rest of us if you could post a picture of the other sockets you have and are looking to match.I look at a lot of stuff at Flea Markets,Estate sales and such and keep a watchful eye out for special items that others are looking for.

. Here are 2 pictures. First is the set, and the 2nd a shot of the 1 1/16", I have the 1 1/8" also. All the sockets are Wayne knurled, except for the elusive 1" size. Hopefully, someone out there knows if it was actually made, or did they just throw in a regular S-K knurled. Seems very strange if they didn't make it as they made all the others....Still hunting !!!

They were all made for sizes in knurled Wayne I have had a full set they also made in 1/4 drive with knurling. There was another crossing over from Wayne to SK tools where the stamping on the cases had the Wayne background and SK tools stamping. There is some SK lectrolite cases out there also and they are usallly blue not green. SK has a lot of rarities from transition period. If you need anything as questions or sockets other than the 1" knurled Wayne let me know.

Off topic a little bit, but I bet you have the Bonney D-26 socket knurled band with the CV logo ?. Interesting that some of them have the thru-hole and some do not, although they look identical....Bonneyman wisdom please !!!!

Thanks for looking ! Flea market tomorrow, Sunrise, Fla, like Sam Adams, always a good decision.!! 80+ acres of goodies, always had luck there. Let me know if you guys are after anything special. This is where I started my love affair with S-K.

I looked for about 2 years to find a 3/8 drive 10mm socket that said SK Wayne. Finally found one at a closing hardware store 2 hours from home. NOS to match the rest of the set i had. Good luck. I'll try to look through my extra sockets as well.

I looked through the several hundred SK sockets I have and didn't find any of the one you want. I have several 1" knurled ones like that but they all just say SK on them. I will keep an eye out for one at the flea market though.

What bugs me is that I got this almost complete set at the local flea market a year ago, and the 1" Wayne was missing, substituted for a regular S-K knurled. I thought it was just unlucky at the time, but I've been watching Ebay among other sites since then, and time after time, I'm seeing the same damn thing ! The 1" is not Wayne !....Whose eating these friggin sockets ! Lol !

Chances are we'll never know for sure but the answer may be something as simple as S-K had a government contract for 1" sockets and ran up a zillion. During the short S-K Wayne period, they still had leftover 1" sockets in the bins and didn't change the nomenclature on just that one.

Keep looking; "A man's reach should exceed his grasp, else what's a heaven for?"

Never knew that, but would be a plausible explanation. At the Flea yesterday, saw a vendor with a 1/2" Snappy rat with an S-K knurled socket attached. I said " please tell me that's a Wayne 1" socket" . He picked it up, it was a Wayne, 1 1/16" Aghhhhhh!!!!!

So if this socket is out there, can the real S-K Wayne 1" knurled socket make himself known in a photograph/picture ? At least looking at a pic of one would be the next best thing to holding one in my hand ! LOL !

I checked my vintage S-K Wayne knurled set. My 1" also only says S-K. Other sockets did say S-K Wayne. I dug through all my loose sockets and didn't find one either. Good luck in your search.

No, sorry.
Actually, I'm pretty particular with my Bonney searches. I really only know about the later Bonney stuff. Triangle tools era (1967 and later). Prior to that I'm afraid I ain't much help.

Actually, I'm trying to assemble a set of Wayne 3/8" drive sockets in metric myself. No checkering, just S-K Wayne.
Here's what I have so far.

Utica, Bonney, and I think Herbrand, all came under Triangle in the late 60's ?? Production was shipped to Orangeburg in the Carolina's ? Just winging it here from what I remember from reading on Alloy Artifacts. Early CV logo...Awesome tools !

Won't get off topic...but will gladly explore a Bonney thread if there's one out there.
