S936 vs S80 ?

I've never really tried any of those two, but from my experience with my dual 80's and 936's in 3/8" and 1/4" drive, I would expect the S80 to trump the S936.

Yet, looking on eBay for the past few days, I've noticed that the S936's are still fetching pretty high money and sometimes even higher than some S80's

Am I missing something here?

Also how would an S872 (round head, fine tooth?) rank against those two?

Don't try making sense of the stuff you see on e-bay! I have seen junk fetch high dollar and nice stuff slip thru the cracks. An 80 should be selling higher than a 936 providing they are of similar condition, but some of these dudes get into bidding wars and items sell pretty high at times.

I don't have a S936 to compare with, I can say that the S80 is SUPER smooth.
It's noticably smoother than the 1/4 or 3/8 dual80s...

I just won an S936 on ebay. It should have been here by now but is not! It was $50 shipped, way cheaper than any other S936 or S80 I saw. I'll let you know how it feels after the red lube treatment

I just purchased used 1/2" and a 3/8" 900 series ratchets; all my Snap-On's previous to these, were 700, 800 series, I think the 900 are an improvement over the 7/800 ratchets (even though in most cases, the tooth count only went up 6 teeth)! I do not have any dual 80s; so, I cannot make a comparison but if all things being equal, I think I would go with the dual 80s. My theory at the moment; get dual 80s for the ratchets you use all the time and situations that would be in tight confined areas; buy 900 vintage series ratchets and newer, for ratchets you want to use every day. The larger drive sizes may not be as much of a issue at 36 teeth, if it is big stuff (front end work, lug nuts etc.) and your range of motion isn't obstructed. This maybe my rationalization or not buying the dual 80s new! I'm finding the 900s dirt cheap, so I am buying those; as time goes on the 80s are going to start coming up used and will be lower priced. Right now they are still relatively new series revision; ebay is crazy and it is hard to figure out if you can get a ratchet at a decent price; some go sky high and some don't even get bid on... I guess it is the luck of draw or the particular auction you are bidding on. I'm finding it is possible to get better deals off of ebay.... but the ratchets are definitely are availible on ebay (many times through "buy it now") and you don't have to go searching for them! I guess it all comes down to how much money you are willing to spend; many 80s/900s sell for close to or above retail; once you add shipping. Keep in mind; on snapon.com, shipping is free!
Don't shy away from checking out your local pawn shop; there just might be some Snapon ratchets waiting for you there, at a good price and with "free shipping"!

I mostly use 30- and 36-tooth ratchets and rarely have issues with them. I have an FLF80 which get's used quite often, but i'm not dependant on it.

I remember people mentioning that the S80 felt even smoother than the 3/8" and 1/4" drive versions, but I am trying to convince myself that I don't need that much "smoothness" in a 1/2" drive ratchet

I gotta say, I have an older 1/2" drive ratcheting adapter with "only" 20 teeth, and for what I use it, it works just fine: front end, suspensions, wheels, etc...

So I started searching eBay for 900's and I was just astonished by how much people were bidding on those!

Does anyone know how the torque ratings compare between the S80 and the S936 (or even older models)?

And yeah, I wish I knew of any good pawnshops/flea markets around me, but sadly I don't
