Sabbath way to go in making a jig.

Looking good..
Thanks 1/2 Cup
I found it to be the easiest way to get the cuts all as close to uniform as possible. When i tried a few weeks ago at doing them freehand by the time i'd turned them over a few times and with the visor down i didnt know which way was up almost :lol_hitti

Some one has been very busy.

Indeed i have, had to do something to take my mind off the upcoming VicRoads apppointment which happened yesterday morning.

Shed content update:-

Today was spent with more cleaning and organising all the various **** that has accumulated in piles due to no storage space.

After a lot of pushing and heaving i got the 240 pushed right over in the corner. It sits almost half a metre closer to the side wall than the Tonner did when i had it. Im happy with the space, and once the rest is cleaned i'll feel even better.

Currently i have the 2 work benches, the 240, the Triton and extension table, the Landcruiser and a heap of various stuff dotted around and i still have plenty of floorspace for moving around so it can only get better.

20180203_183006.jpg

I also dragged my Water-to-Air Intercooler setup that i've had for about 2 years now. It's a complete custom combination which has meant i've spent many hours just staring at the space trying to work out the best layout. Originally the intercooler was going to sit on the head but the way i've envisioned it now puts it across to the side.

This pic should help explain what will happen.

20170325_162712.jpg

Im missing a straight coupling and some clamp before that can all be hooked up. But i also need to work out a location for the pump, reservoir and working out how to mount the heat exchanger but that will require the bullbar to be pulled off.

Hey bud Just finished reading your whole build!

Really frustrates me with all the drama you had at the beginning with your shed build, as i pretty much had the exact same issues you did. Your slab is **** like mine, low spots all over it and water pooling into the middle. And when you confront the concreter about it, Oh its within tolerances.....

Did you bother to get into contact with your guy about the issues with your slab?

Really sux about your truck too. Is the workshop doing all this repair work for free? and did you get reimbursed from the engineers sub par repair work?

Looking forward to all the updates!

Rudi.

Thanks for stopping past Rudi

At first i didnt know there was an issue with the levels, my biggest concern was actually a large spot that didnt dry. Which is likely moisture from under the slab as they didnt use a barrier. I didnt bother contacting him because it was a shut door and forget type deal once the shed went up i got busy starting my business and by the time i got around to it i lost all his details.

Trucks currently stranded at the mechanics with a major defect. Vicroads came past and tore them a new opening to the tune 2 years license suspension. The engineer is waiting to learn his fate.

The general consensus between the 3 of us is that we want to sort this out as soon, and amicably as possible and keep the lawyers out of it if possible.

The 2 options we've floated so far:

The engineer has a buyer who might want to purchase the truck for yard work so he's stopping past tomorrow and if he offers the right amount, the engineer and the workshop will come to the party with the rest of the money to make it up to the value of the truck

Second option is they put it through their insurance as a claim of some sort. Im hoping we can work something on the first option as it will get me the money i need quicker and i wont have to wait for each insurance company to fight each other over the value of the truck and who's at fault more.

Sigh. More updates to come.

Thanks :bounce:

Hmm. I can only say I hope it all works out for you. As for the floor I hope the next few days of hot weather dries that out.

Thanks HOTFR8, it's kind of sad knowing i'll never drive that truck again. That 400HP CAT used to whistle it's head off and the noise it made on gear changes (20 Speed Spicer) was phenomenal :(

As for the floor, that patch went away after 2 to 3 months. And hasnt come back since which is good. Im planning on getting the laser level out tomorrow and give the floor a going over, just as something to take my mind of how **** the truck situation is.

Gave the shed floor a wash yesterday as i couldnt face another day of dealing with solicitors and engineers and phonecalls so i procrastinated and did the floor. Levels are all over the place, worst is probably at the door that goes uphill and rakes off to the side when water is pushed towards it.

Great build-read so far, any updates? not good news about your truck though.
Speaking from experience a big table drain across the front of the shed works great, when its clean! Dont do what I recently did, walked past and noticed heaps of dirt in the drain, thought to myself yes I should clean that out. About a week later we had a big down pour, not only did I still have to clean the drain out but now I had to clean up inside the shed as well.

Thanks for stopping past gazza.

Been a bit busy the past week with talking to solicitors and bouncing correspondence back and forwards between the engineer and the workshop so the shed's been sitting idle.

I do need to do something about sealing up the eave and point on the roof as they're not sealed and stuff blows in and makes the floor dusty. The FIL has a set of mobile scaffolding i might borrow to deal with it.

Cleaning shed floors is the WORST. Every time i do it i curse not having put a sealer or coating on the floor. It will end up being quite a bit of work to do it i'd think. Aside from the obvious of moving everything out again, the hydraulic oil leaks on the floor would probably be an issue.

As far as the truck goes, we reached an agreement which is all under a non-disclosure clause as far as the details. So im able to move on with what has been agreed upon and im off tomorrow to see the truck onto a float and then off truck shopping after that.

Truck shopping:) sounds like fun. Sounds like it was the best and final way to resolve it all.

Good news then, moving forward into another truck, It may not be your preferred option but at least the big light at the end of the tunnel is another truck coming your way!.
I cant visualize the shape of the trim trim you may need for your eves but if it helps I have a 2.4m sheet metal folder and a guillotine and can access flat galvanized and colourbond sheets to make flashings and trims to suit.
cheers

Thanks guys, the tunnel certainly looked endless for a while there.

Today was a fairly emotional day, the truck i've wanted for a while got taken away never to be seen by me again, and it also signaled the end of the saga.

Here she is sitting on the float ready to be taken away:

But, the best thing when you're feeling down is a bit of retail therapy. So i jumped straight in the car, cheque in hand and went and put a deposit down on another truck.

She's a 2000 Model Stirling, 500HP Detroit, 18 Speed Road Ranger, Airbagged rear end, set up to tow a trailer. Waiting on it to go through roadworthy and hopefully pick it up this weekend or early next week. (as i've learnt my lesson on buying trucks without a roadworthy :lol_hitting: )

Sounds like an awesomely dangerous piece of equipment. :D Im not too sure what im going to find when i get up there, im hoping most of it is coming through at the top, and i can solve that with a foam spray and then cover it with sisilation to pretty it up a bit as it was always on the cards to do that anyway. Maybe in a fortnight once the new truck is all sorted i'll make some time to climb up there and check it out. Or i may be requiring metal to be bent into some cool shapes depending what i find :D

Nice build. Glad to see the truck case closed, just reading the whole episode was stressful. I wish your next truck doesn't give you any surprises so you can concentrate on other things.

You still have a garage which looks organized and empty, usually they fill up at a quicker rate :p

Im doing my best to keep the shed tidy and organised. I'll eventually be putting more shelving up over where the Volvo is parked. Strength will be the biggest issue as it will be a 5m span.

But that's a few projects in the future. Need to get it sealed up before i go putting bolted down shelving in.

So i was going to have a day in the shed today but a mate needed some work done in his backyard so what else was i to do but pack up the truck and go round and give him a hand.

Access is becoming an increasing issue with the size of some suburban blocks. Especially after they've put all the extra stuff in.

Not a lot of room to spare there...

You're not wrong. Makes it interesting :bounce:
--------------------------------------------------

Had a bit of an "odd jobs" week since i didnt have the truck yet.

I woke up one morning and decided that i didnt like the brick Nib Wall that served to create an entranceway but which really ended up making the living room an awkward shape.

20180227_141823.jpg

A few hours with a mini sledge and chisel and the wall was down. We're planning on topping it and using it as an entrance table. It opens the room up a whole lot more because you can now see from the couch to the dining area.

20180305_200948.jpg

Then, i walked past one of the bedrooms and the door happened to be open and i finally got sick of looking at the cork board that the PO had glued to the wall. I started trying to chisel/break/scrape the cork off the wall. But this was the result of about 15 minutes of scraping. And, the wall still would need a real good sand to take the glue and residue off.

20180301_181825.jpg

So 15 minutes later (much of that wrestling with the skirting board) i had a wall that looked like this:

20180302_114605.jpg

Which then led me to need to make a trip to Bunnings, the local hardware store, to get some new board for the wall. But, the last time i used the trailer the hinges on the back gate snapped. The gate then sat on the floor and somehow managed to work its way under the drives on the truck over winter. I knew it was unusable. So with a bit of leftover bar and a bit of time i knocked up a new frame and some mounts so i can slide it in and out instead of it being hinged.

Sab, great work.

I replaced both trailer gates not so long ago as mine were rusted out..:shocking:

Regards

Cheers 1/2, one of the joys of it living outside permanently.

Ripped the Bobcat off the old truck and got it setup for the new one. Took some photos for the business page.

Today with the nice weather i was going to retake the photo of the Bobcat and the Truck together, but decided that the steer rims a polish.

IMG_20180307_164621_805.jpg

Then the stacks got a polish but the phone decided to mess that one up.

You need to try some Briliant polish - One L of a polish........Google it. I use it on the ALCOA's.

Will look it up, im almost out of the stuff i've got at the moment. Thanks HOTFR8.

The drivers side steer has some pretty bad gouging on the face, but, this isnt a show truck so im not going to panic too much at the moment. Plus, i still have 4 more to first stage polish before i start worrying about getting a finished shine on them.

Been a while since i posted here, have been absolutely flat out with work and making money. Which isnt such a bad thing.

I've spent a bit of time working on rail crossing removal projects, namely the Skye/Overton Rd Crossing in Frankston. Took a few pics:
Raised precast concrete sections are used to go over the roadway. These need to be filled with a combination of dust and ballast rock. In 100mm layers which is compacted between layers. At the start it was a very tight fit onto the jobsite, but as we got more material in we slowly were able to get truck and dogs in.
Originally, we were reversing down this corridor about 150m. And it was a case of first truck in, last truck out once we had 20 or so trucks stacked up waiting to tip off

The dozer
IMG_20180521_202722_061.jpg

Been on a heap more projects in the past couple months, but that one is probably the coolest. 24/7 for a month straight the project has been running.

Since i last updated, i've bought myself a plant trailer:

20180519_112939.jpg

and an Excavator
ex.jpg

tr.jpg

Used machine, but brand new buckets:
20180610_173913.jpg

Now, to the shed component of my update.

When i spec'd the shed. I got a 2.7m opening/door fitted so that i could get stuff in and out with no issue. This new excavator is 2.5m tall to the top of the canopy.

So when i brought it home on Saturday, i went to put it in the shed and guess what?
Didnt ****** fit.
20180609_131250.jpg

After a bit of thinking, i realised why. The concreter had done an infill slab. So the shed isnt resting on the slab, and the door opening is 2.7m minus the 150mm for concrete.:mad:

So, im left with 2 options. I either cut out the floor, and put in a new ramp (remembering the issues i've had with slab quality, i was going to do this at first) or i raise the door lintle and height.

The door has enough travel on it for the 2.7m opening. So that's not an issue. So simple job says, unscrew the lintle, remove the flashing, cut face sheet, reattach lintle, lengthen door guides, lift door. Easy. Done. Simple.

Well....do you think my blood pressure went up when i saw how the bastards had attached the roller door?

20180610_143713.jpg
:eek::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Seriously....people....guh.

Anyway. That's what's new with me. Will hopefully have this door issue resolved sometime in the next month.

Long time no visit, or no post.

Life has a habit of getting in the way of getting in the way of the little things and totally throwing curveballs at you.

I happened to be browsing facebook and a bright blue Brobo Cold Cut Saw popped up, it was one of those 'i've seen that before' moments and did a quick look on here and sure enough it's the one that was restrored by a member here.

Which is when i learnt of the passing of 1/2 Cup. Which was terribly shocking to read. And my thoughts and condolences go to his friends and family.

______________________________________________________________

Since i last posted i've all but wound up my earthmoving business. I had an incident with a builder who stiffed me on an invoice for close to $7,000, some of which was fees paid to tip his material at a number of different sites. And while that was nowhere close to being enough to tip the finances of the business it was a final nail in the coffin as far as mental stress went. Added onto some taxation issues (my previous accounting firm wasnt prudent in lodging the correct documents) and the issues with the truck that i documented here i decided that with the first child on the way i would be able to enjoy the experience more without having the stresses weighing on my mind.

I took up a job which started off driving compactors doing hard rubbish pickups, and then moved into the yard operating the machinery. It's a pretty cool job and i get to operate all different types of machines.

We have some other cool stuff going on, making a move towards creating PEF which is Process Engineered Fuel to reclaim some of the waste that is dumped and use it as an alternative to fossil fuels in a number of applications.

About all i've had time for in the shed is to sort out some shelving.

Picked this lot up for $100 from work, and have put about half of it up so far.

Great to have some updates. Congrats on the first kid coming, hopefully everything goes well! Some nice machines at your work, must be "fun" to use them.

After your child is born, you will have either less time or more time to spend in the garage. Usually it is the former ;) That shelving seems very sturdy. Must be of help organizing the garage.
