My 40+ year old corded, Craftsman Industrial, triple gear reduction 1/2" drill (900.27121) died !

IScreenshot 2024-11-09 200946.png

One of the gears broke while I was drilling holes in a stump with a 1" auger bit.

That sucker had so much torque (max 600 RPM) that it could break your wrist or spin you around if you were using the assist handle and leaning into it.

Did you check Sears parts direct or similar for a P/N? Tiny chance something is out there!

Can you have someone 3D print a suitable replacement? You can always search eBay for a derilict donor for cheap.

She had a good run, but it might not be the end just yet👆🏽Good luck!

I still have my 3/8" Craftsman Professional drill from MANY years ago. Love that thing. Also, an electric 1/2" impact wrench and rotary grinder (like a Dremel).

My 3/8 professional drill bought in maybe the mid 70’s has been passed to my youngest son. Cord was replaced a few years ago, but the drill still works great.

when I clicked this thread I was expecting to read a 5 page essay on the history of auger bits and the first time oldwizard’s grandfather taught him how to use a drill and the scent of the autumn flowers that day 😂

Black and Decker, when they were a real company and not the shadow of their former self they are today, made most of the Craftsman Industrial power tools. They were every bit as good as Milwaukee or Porter-Cable which were considered the top of the top. What SB&D did to Porter-Cable should be a criminal offense.
