I'm looking for an economical but mainly safe space heater suitable for working in a closed garage. My father enjoys woodworking in his 2 car garage but needs something safe to knock the edge off the cold while he's working.

Something with directed air like the Ryobi 18v propane heater would be great. Minus propane as a heat source, of course.

Electric units are fairly cheap. If you don't plan to run it all the time they can be cost effective.

I picked up a 7500 watt unit for 89 bucks on a Black Friday same

I use my Big Buddy Propane heater in my shop. I like that it has a low oxygen shut off.

I use an oil bath electric radiator. The safest way to go in a shop setting. Heats my garage way up.

Not blowing on you if you need that, but pretty safe, sealed, no open element and no CO.

Oil filled ceramic are generally considered one of the safest.

You could also consider good ole fashioned baseboard. Cheap, but does have an exposed element that doesn't get "red hot".

Bringing this back up (hopefully not to hijack this thread)

I have a 30 amp 240v circuit in my garage and would like to purchase a 4800-5600W electric heater that I can plug/unplug

Reading the reviews a lot of these seem to catch on fire (fans stop working, wiring overheats, etc).

Does anyone have any recommendations for a "good" one that won't break the bank?
