A friend of mine has a old gas station and it has an old safe in the concrete floor. A small deposit one about 8 inches in diameter. The tag states.
Gary Safe Co Los Angeles. Do you think its worth removing? I estimate
Lots of hammer drill holes around it as a guess. My fried told me it has not been opened in over 25 years. Any thoughts? Thanks

Years ago, my mother bought an abandoned gas station. One of the accoutrements was a nifty deposit safe mounted on a piece of 3" square box tube.

She hired a guy to take it out as she wanted to put an office in the building and didn't want a safe there to attract attention.

What we didn't know was that they put them in to stay put. The piece of tubing was jammed with rebar and filled with concrete. The rebar was bent at 90' so that it was splayed out into the concrete floor.

We considered dynamite.

You are likely in for much more than you bargained for on this one. There is no telling how creative they got when that safe was installed. I'd expect rebar, steel plate, etc around the opening.

I would be more tempted to call a safe shop and ask their opinion. It might be a reasonable price to have them come open it, and then you could pick the guys brain on how to remove it without destroying it.

Im guessing its going to be much harder than you think to remove it

get a safe company to remove the door then just fill it with concrete flush with the existing floor

I wouldn't bother taking it out, more work than it's worth.
You can have it opened but, 9 times out of 10 they are empty. Cost can range from $250-$450 to have it opened (rough guess based on your description, please post a picture.)

Also, you can try and search the interwebs for a drill template and have at it if you don't plan to keep it.

If it's only 8" in diameter you could go around it with a 10"-12" core drill bit. Might be able to rent it too.

Jackhammer time! What do you have to loose? For me, it would be just time since I am laid off for the winter
