Safe to use old (not used) NM wire?

I have no idea....I'm lost!
My Father-in-Law just gave me some 12/2 with ground (about 130') . It's new, but was made in 2000. I'm a little concerned because the outer jacket looks like it is a pinkish creamy color. I didn't know if the sun has gotten to this or if that is even a concern. I don't know if he had it stored inside, outside, etc.The color is uniform , so maybe this is just the color. I'm used to seeing it in yellow. The wire says Romex NM-B with ground and then says Extruder. The lettering is not faded and is a green/blue color. I don't want to turn down free wire but just wanted to make sure that the jacketing isn't going to fall apart, etc. when I put some staples over it etc.
Thanks,
T A

Wire from 2000 is not all that old. If it is not brittle, I would probably use it. NM is not sunlight resistant, so if it was outside it could be compromised.

Thanks guys. Looks like I'm using it. Dumb question......was there any code changes in wire spec since 2000? Since I have to get my elec inspected, am I okay using non-yellow, etc NM?
Thanks,
Jerry

Check with your inspector. The code mandated yellow is for the ease of inspection. The guys can tell at a glance what gauge the wire is by the color. But, our local guy doesn't care. I suspect most won't, but best to ask.

Its marked MN-B which is, I think, current version of the wire, with 90°C conductors. As long as the markings are readable, there is no real reason to not use it.

Thanks guys. I ran that wire today. Still have a few more lights etc to wire for. It's a good thing I'm not an electrician......I totally missed the boat on how much wire I needed. Should have bought more up front.....it would have been cheaper even considering the freebie I just got. Live and learn!
