We are getting a building with the service drop to on site transformers. The transformers are in a rack about 10 feet off the ground. An electrician we had conduct a survey / inspection suggested a barrier to enclose the transformers.

Chain Link comes to mind, any other ideas on a barrier, welded tube is also possible but I would rather keep animals out of the area.

Contact your power company, they will have some input on this topic.

When I worked for an operating company of AEP, if we found barriers to such things around our transformers, they were removed and the company billed for the costs to remove.

Squirrels are a major problem, but it's nearly impossible to keep them away from such things.

I second talking to the local electric utility. They will need access to the transformers for maintenance or repair.
