I have been trying to get my old antifreeze picked up for 2 months:mad:

Thier service *****. I have a parts washer supplied by them. It is $107 every three months. Well when the bill came do I have not paid it over the antifreeze deal. Today I get a collection call from some arabic guy I could not understand.
I asked him if he knows what a parts washer is? Of course not:shocking:
I told him figure it out and call me back:bounce:

Sounds normal for that company. I helped a friend out in a shop working on heavy equipment. They had safety clean as well.
They ended up buying a distiller and canceling the account because the guy would never show up to get the solvent.

In our area there isn't competition for what they do so we get what we get as far as service is concerned. And we are one of their top 5 accounts. I have a broken parts washer for 3 weeks. Was supposed to get our gun cleaners traded out weeks ago and keep getting the run around about that. And when we get the 'new' machines we are promised they are almost always a refurb(done poorly) hand me down.

I'd be curious to hear what the charges are for these services (Safety Clean or others) and what you get (or are supposed to get :) )

At my friends, every 2-3 weeks the guy was supposed to come by with fresh solvent and take the old stuff with. Also was supposed to clean the system and replace anything that was worn out.

there was a time when safety-kleen prided a good service at a fair price, at least in the shop environment. then the prices went through the roof and the service to the basement level.

at some point I gave up and began handling it myself through local recycling and dropoff/collection facilities. costs less, and the service is there when you need it.

in CA, a lot of our auto parts house take coolant and oil, in reasonable quantities, for free.

If i have a problem with a company i usually give them a chance to make it right. Safety Kleen takes the cake for the worst service and customer care i have ever experienced. I am in Ca. so it may be worse than others.

Can you say what city you're in? LA I've had little luck with even with small amounts of stuff. And the drop-off things are usually so sporadic and out of the way.

I just used them for my Parts washers. I had a coulple 500 gallon tanks for my waste oil. I burned most of that in my waste oil heaters in the winter but when they started getting full in the summer I had a company that paid decent for it. My coolant went to a recycler and I bought from them. Buy the time I was done my heat and my coolant was free. We did a lot of Deisel truck oil changes. It doesn't take long to fill a 500 gallon tank.

I've worked in Environmental for over 12 years, including working for safety kleen. If you're looking for an alternative to their service, consider Crystal-Clean: http://www.crystal-clean.com/

Full disclosure; I've worked for Safety Kleen previously and work for Crystal-Clean now. I won't bad mouth my previous employer, but I will say if you compare the service level between the two I think you'll be impressed.

They offer all the services that safety kleen offers, including parts cleaners, paint gun cleaners, used oil pickup, waste drum disposal, etc.

Crystal-Clean doesn't cover every state yet, so check the website to see if they are in your area.

Safety clean here *****. The driver that picks up the waste oil is a nice guy but the department that does the parts washer service is a joke.

Located in the Sac Valley, not LA.

I found out you can even call the city once a month and they'll pick up the stuff @ the curb. I still do the parts-house dump, they know me and ask no questions, even if I happen to bring in more than they usually allow in one drop.

The local dump, known as the 'materials recovery facility', does amnesty days twice a year for toxics as well, again, no questions. They'll take paint, solvent, anything on those days, no charge either.

Sorry such is not the case in your area.

It may well be that we have amnesty days. But the local place literally seems to balk at more than a couple of cans of old paint.

I had 20 years of old paint and some odd chemicals that I wanted to dispose of properly. And it was a real PITA.
