Safety Glasses?

So I might be stuffy for a mid 30's guy... But, I cannot stand the new fangled Oakley looking safety specs. I prefer the old school shop glass style. My problem is most of mine are bent out of shape or scratched pretty badly at this point.

Does anyone know of suppliers that still make or carry them? Or has anyone had custom specs made? I'd like to have either some old school looking ones or even a Jesse James style Loc

any help would be great

If you're talking about the old "nerdy" black frames that had high impact glass lenses, they are getting scarce. I have seen them on the Snap-on truck and my local Grainger had them on display about a year ago. You might check your local independent auto parts dealers -- some still have them in stock.

Do a search for safety glasses and you will get all types of suppliers. We usually get ours from Grainger. I have a couple of pair of Haley Davidson safety glasses and they are by far the best that I have ever worn. They wrap the face right but you don't see any of the frame to block your vision. Of all the different styles I have tried over the years, these are by far the best fitting ones. A little more expensive than some others, but along with safety, I am paying for the comfort. You can wear them all day and not realize that you have them on. They are Harley Davidson Clear Series 500 Safety Glasses. I think the last pair I got was something like $14.95

Go to your local fire and safety shop. I purchase my Nemesis safety glasses (probably the most comfortable safety glasses I have ever worn) there for about $3.50 a pair.

I second the Nemesis , I get them for right around 3.00 -3.50 from a hardware store. They are not "standard" old school glasses though.

Tell your "friend" to check with his eye doc the next time he goes in for an exam. Before laser surgery, I used to get mine that way.

Love the Nemisis glasses...............wear them 5-6 days a week for 8-12 hrs a day.

I get them at the welding supply or the electrical supply houses for $3.00-4.00 a pair.

I get the AOSafety ones from Home Depot. They also make them in a dark gray so they are good for working outside like when your using an edger or something like that.

My buddy got me a pair of the military oakley safety glasses and i love them. I can wear them all day and forget that i have them on, hold up really well to abuse and I can change out the lens to sunglasses if i so choose, but normal retail on them is $105, insanely expensive for safety glasses

I have a few of those old school safety glasses ones with normal arms and ones with flexible wire arms. I do like the old school look but they make my head hurt. My boss got me a couple pairs of the AOSafety Fuel glasses with indoor/outdoor lens. I like the way they fit a lot, I can wear them all day and they never get in the way or feel heavy.

When I was at Grainger awhile back,I picked up these flexible, clear magnifying lens they had on display.Pretty neat, with clean hands, you run cool water on them and your saftey glasses, then set them in place on the glasses. When they dry, they are glued in place,so in my case,I got the 1.25x ones, and can see up close really well, yet being a bi-focal,still can see above them ok.only cost around $8.00 if IIRC.

Try the Nemesis glasses. I have several pairs including clear for working inside, light tint for most outside and polarized for stuff with sparks or bright glare (I don't recommend this because you should always you properly designed welding goggles for oxy-acetylene welding but I liked them in dark areas because they allowed me to see slightly better without hurting my eyes.) Also one other thing I liked about the Nemesis is I didn't get glare from the lenses like I typically do from almost every other pair of safety glasses I have ever worn.

Does anyone recommend safety glasses that do not fog up too badly (especially in the gulf coast humidity)? I use them when I use power tools and am under the car, but they always seem to fog up so quickly that I take them off until I get back under the car or get the power tools out.

You can also get the Nemesis glasses in 3.0 & 5.0 Welding tint/filter. Our robot welder operators wear the 3.0's for flash protection and some of our hand welders like the 5.0 lenses for spotting. They are about twice what the clear & shaded versions are, but still cheap at 7 or 8 bucks. MSC carries them.

Those old fart's always gave me a damned headache, you can keep them.

I hate them, I haven't worn them since high school woodworking class, I'd much rather wear modern wrap arounds, but the OP did seem to be asking for 'nerd glasses' *shrugs*

I haven't found any that won't fog up yet. I even tried anti-fog stuff for swim goggles that helped but it just seemed to delay the fogging a bit. I hate when glasses googles, fog up so much so that it even caused me a trip to the emergency room at 3 am to get a piece of rust ground out of my eye.

I've been eying these up and waiting till I found something else on Amazon worth buying so I don't have to pay shipping.

Anybody try them?

I bought those goggles on sale from Amazon recently. They're reasonably comfortable over my glasses, but still fogged up after a few minutes of work. They did better than any other pair of goggles I've tried, but they did fog up when I was doing anything more than just standing.

To me, when you say old school safety glasses you are talking about wire frames, with built in wire mesh side shields, and wire flex temple pieces, not those thick plastic clunkers shown before.
