Safety Switch Locations

Are there any code requirements as to the placement of safety switches - have to be within so many feet of the appliance?

I'm looking to replace the safety switch for the well pump. Thought about just mounting it right next to the switch for the water heater for convenience sake. That would put the safety switch about 16 feet from the actual well.

I don't know the exact NEC code section number-
But the disconnect must be within sight of and less than 50' away from the equipment it is disconnecting.

If the safety switch can be locked out, it doesn't have to be within sight of the equipment.
