salamander will not stay lit

I have a remington 50 model forced air salamander that (while full of kerosene) the ignitor glows bright red and the fan starts, it ignites a couple short bursts but then times out and shuts off... never stays lit. anyone ever have this issue?

Sure have! I had to change the air filter, clean all the lines going to the nozzle and clean the nozzle. Used brake clean and and compressed air blowing back through to get it to work. Also changed the fuel filter. But cleaning the nozzle and the lines from the air filter to the nozzle seemed to be the cure.

On mine(not the same brand) you have to take the pump apart and clean it. It's a vane type pump (compressor) that the vanes get "sticky" from the stuff they are made of (plastic?) as they wear down. The vanes get smoothed out with some 800 wet or dry on a piece of glass (or something really smooth) a little brake clean in the housing wipe it out assemble it and you should be good to go. I have to do this every other year it seems

The vanes are graphite.
One problem could be soot on the flame eye.
Another could be flame adjustment.

Nice! ill check that out when i get home tonight. thanks all! im almost done with my radiant floor heat system but it got cold quick here in upstate ny and wanted to take the chill out of the air. nice thunderbird ratdoggy, my father rocks a 63.

And they mention the first thing to check is the air pressure. Check the pump pretty sure that's what it is

I took evrything apart, blew it out with brake cleaner and compressed air just like you suggested, cleaned the photo eye and it lit right up after i re assembled it... thank you so much for the tips!!

It's really not nice to light them on fire......
