Hang tight, JCQ, I have just finished helping Mrs. W clean out the office so I can now focus on the garage. Christmas decorations come down tomorrow and up to the attic and then I think I should be able to see the Bus again. Oh, and Santa brought a 40-incher that needs to be hung...

I need to practice what I preach as all my focus lately has been shop build :lol_hitti

Looks like it's a small world. Us GJ members are everywhere. LOL.

Yes it is. BTW I have a good friend that lives in Brooksville he's a bit down on his luck but a great guy. You don't happen to know some guy that lives in a motor home in a pasture and works on small engines for an Ace hardware do ya"

Not off hand but think I know which ACE hardware it might be. There's one out in Ridge Manor. It's right at 301 and 50. If that's the one that's a good 30 mins away from me.

Hi Jeff,

Just popping in to say hi and that I've made it through your thread after a good few evenings over the last week or so. Great to see another working garage thread with cool things going on.

Great use of space in your cabinet designs, I do have to build some storage for rattle cans and fishing rods myself when time permits.

While not a nice old bus like yours, I do have my old 1970 type III fast back that was also left out in the weather (and still is). There are a few rust holes in the floor now and in the door sills but I must go and see if she can be rescued and see what panels are available for it. Also used to have to **** my leg over the gear stick to stop it popping 4th gear :D Amongst my siblings there are I think at present 1 bus with the barn doors, 3 beetles (2 are restored), and 2 type III squarebacks. The year models escape me at the moment.

I think there are plenty of Star Wars fans here, I have the 5000+ piece Lego millennium falcon sitting beside my desk at work that will one day need a place to be built and displayed (it's approx 3' x 2' assembled!)

Anyway thanks for sharing, I'm subscribed now to keep up with your happenings...

Cheers Grumblebum

Jeff,

Getting caught up. It really has been too long. The costuming looks amazing and super fun! I'd love to do it myself...maybe when the kids just a wee bit older and I can make them some Jawa costumes.

I hope you and your family are doing well.

Guilty! I hit Triangle a couple times hoping to see you, but I guess I was looking the wrong way and your were *******. Guess I'm going to have to swing by your place on one of my trips to Jax as I start building a new project next year.

Since I'm here, I might as well give a little update...
- 1st, I am off my former photo storage site and have tried to update every GJ photo I have ever posted. I am now using Imgur and so far, I am satisfied! If anyone see a missing photo or bad link, please PM me and I will work on it!

- My VW Bus has been at a standstill for a while as Life has gotten in the way. I bought parts from JC to rebuild the brakes, but decided to replace the front floor board. It has been removed, mostly...

- March 2017 - diagnosed with prostrate cancer. August 2017, had it removed. Cured! If anyone wants to talk for advice, please PM me!

- September 2017 - Hurricane Irma forced my mom to evacuate from Miami to AL for 3 weeks until her power could be repaired and she had a ride home. She decided then at 87 years old that she didn't need to own a house anymore. She decided she wanted to move to Tampa to be near us.

- October 2017 - I was let go from my company after 20 years 6 month of being an architect for them, because they decided they didn't want to continue designing Senior Living Facilities.

- November 2017 - Started my own business to design Senior Living Facilities

- Fall 2017 thru Fall 2018 - Multiple trips from Tampa to Miami to clean out a house we have owned for 52 years. Many, many boxes of family memories have been brought to my garage for storage. I mean until they are sorted out.

- May 2018 - Mom moves to Tampa. House still needed more cleaning, painting, estate sale, etc.

- 2019 - Two of my firm's projects are put on hold - a delay in starting construction and a delay finding site for new project. Site was secured and design just finished. Times were slow for new business and Finance Minister stopped the grants. Bus is on hold, as are other hobbies.

- May 2018 and May 2019 - Twin daughters both graduate college! WoooHooo!! One still is at UF for her Masters Degree.

Thanks, JC for rattling my thread. I do have updates that I need to start working on. As I wrap up another design, I will have some slow time that I can get some posts updated!

I think of your thread at times but never when I'm near a computer. I think my first ever comment was on your thread. Thank you for getting me hooked years later now. Sorry to hear of some of the tough times but also glad to hear about the good times. The world keeps moving and you just need to try to hold on for the ride. I wish you the best in the future.

Jeff, I've missed reading about your projects and life. It sounds like your life has had some tough challenges and I feel bad we weren't able to give you support. Keep us posted when you can. Congratulations on the good stuff and condolences on the bad. My uncle was an architect for a small firm and when the owner died he was out of a job. He started his own firm and picked up the unfinished work. He told me his only regret was not starting on his own sooner. He passed away young (55) but his two young sons went on to become architects running their own firms. I wish you the best in your new adventure.

I am glad someone posted to this thread last week.

It took me a while but I finally made it through the whole thing.

Congratulations on beating the Big C and on starting your own design firm.

I look forward to reading about any further adventures in the Salt Life Hideout.
