I work hauling trash from refuse transfer stations to the local landfill. You would not believe the things people throw away. I got the toolbox's up top, the antique stove-board, old radio, quaker state drum and license plates out of the garbage also.

A truck came in the other day with a ridiculous amount of scrap lumber and I grabbed it. Today I bought a box of screws for $6 and built the bench. I wasn't quite satisfied with just the plain bench, so I added the wire shelf to the top, and I built a couple of paint can holders for the sides.

Of course I forgot to take pictures during the build, but you get the idea.

I also posted the pictures of the entertainment center down a few posts.

I built an entertainment center out of 2 pallets. I do not have 1 dime in it as I reused the ever-so PITA pallet nails. I will post pics later.

Whatever works! I built my bench out of scrap lumber from when I had my shop built. Custom made to my liking, but the screws cost me a fortune lol, literally used a 100 or so.

I do feel bad for you having a gravel floor. 2 garage's/ shops I worked out of had a gravel floor.....dirty, dusty, gravel moves around when you walk on it (traffic areas have less gravel), easy to loose bolts and screws etc. I don't miss that at all, but I know cement isn't cheap.

I worked at a hospital many years ago...you want to talk about waste?? Hospitals throw everything away- we had a basement and me and my supervisor worked for 2 wks throwing stuff away (other than what he told me I could have). Within a week the basement had soo much more stuff than we could have thrown away in a month. Beds, stretchers, rolling cabinets,-(I did score two of them), filing cabinets, microwaves, refrigerators...etc

Unfortunately, I didn't have my shop so I saw a lot of things go to waste. Good for you for repurposeing.

It's amazing what you can grab for free. I've stocked a lot of my garage from free (or nearly free!) bits and pieces.
I love the way I can get close to rivalling some of the bought garages here.

If you keep making great finds like those, you could sell them on CL. The proceeds from the sales, if saved up would pay for some concrete for your garage.

Here are the pictures of the entertainment center I built from 2 pallets. I literally have about $1 in this project from the miniscule amount of wood glue that I used. I reused the, ever-so pain in the rear, spiral nails from the pallets.

I used the stringers from the pallets for the structure (i.e. risers, frame for top and bottom) and the slats for the top and shelves.
