I've been sitting here for a couple of minutes reading about people spending their lives in the Garage Journal. My wife, sitting 3' from me on her computer just asked, "Are you alright?"
I said, 'Sure. Why?" and she said "I haven't heard a peep out of you in over an hour!"

It is entirely Sammm's fault for telling me about this place. :Help:

I live in the DFW metromess too close to the Jones Dome, but in a great neighborhood with awesome neighbors.

When we moved here a few years ago, I told the realtor I had 4 needs beside the budget:
1. Wife had to like the house
2. Corner lot
3. Room to build a shop
4. Good neighbors

My wife and the realtor literally looked at over 100 houses out of the hundreds my wife searched on the internet. When the realtor took me to see this house, she said it is on a corner lot in an established neighborhood (60's) and your wife REALLY likes the house, but there is a problem. I'm not sure there is room to build a shop, but wait until you see it.

Not enthusiastically, I let the realtor take me to see a great house on a corner lot with a 2 car carport attached to a single garage that is 21x18 and has it's own HVAC. On the other side of the house is a 24x24 free standing shop :bounce:

Between the time we signed on the house and moved in, neighbors invited us to dinner twice!

Before anybody else says it - I know
:needpics:

I will try to post some very soon. In the meantime, I do a little woodworking and some wrenching. Occassionally, I host tech days for some of the folks I autocross with.

My two biggest problems are:
1. The guys never want to use my nice, big shop since the garage has HVAC and the fridge with all the Dublin Dr Pepper (Google it)
2. If I need a tool, it is in the other space (garage or shop)

I'm open to suggestions for solving both problems

I also have a shop and a 2-car attached. Once you get a few projects going, you'll NEED and USE them both!! In the summer, I park a couple of my older cruiser/drivers in the 2 car attached for easy access and to do some light wrenhcing, tunes up, etc. In the winter, I park and work on our daily drivers in the 2-car attachewd becuase I don't have room in the shop and don't want to track snow/mud in there.
So, what I found I needed, was sets of tools in each place. Most of us have doubles of most tools, so it's just a case of seperating them and splitting them between the 2 spaces.
In your case, I'd put a decent set of "loaner" tools in the HVAC garage to have your buds over and hang out drinking beer. Keep the best tools and projectsin the shop - where only you have access to!

Sammm knows good things!

Welcome aboard!

Look into the preseason AC sales. We expect to see pics of the finished installation by the end of April. AC is a must down there.

Well, I'm soon to be back in TX. Arlington is one of my stops, and I'm a road racer. Started in SCCA Autocrossing years ago. I may have to find you to check out these notorious Dublin Dr. Peppers...

Welcome to the board.

I don't envy you the traffic you're going to have around you in a few weeks!!!

Hello from slightly South of you (Mansf). We're staying home that weekend!

I'm very jealous of your shop/garage. My only request on the last 3 houses was "3 car garage". Haven't gotten one yet haha...

Everybody who like corner lots are invited to visit IL in the winter and clean a double length of sidewalks. Actually, a jumbo-size lawn mowing in the summer is a lot of fun too. :)

Welcome to the board! Forget the silly suggestions on how to improve your garage and the out-building. Just move your family there and use the house as your workshop. When you're ready to install an air compressor, locate it closer to the neighbors. This will eliminate noise in the shop and test the loyalty of your new friends. I'm sure they'll invite you for dinners much more often: it's a simple choice between listening to your voice vs. voice of your compressor.

Enjoy your new ho....errr...workshop!

We don't clean sidewalks in the winter down here - it melts the next day, but our first spring, I measured the front yard for fertilizer. 6000 square feet! :shocking:

welcome to GJ..

Still working on that. Gathered a few from projects, but not much of the garage and shop yet.
