More progress...got the front wall insulated, outlets ready and covered with OSB last weekend. I'll get a garage door installed after the brick is done, and then I'll start my electrical.

The brick work started yesterday. They should finish up tomorrow.

Paint that soffit and then clad it before you do the gutters and you'll never have to paint it again!

Vinyl/aluminum = more garage time down the road.

@slads - All the MX-5's I've owned have been stock engines. Some sticky tires, suspension and exhaust tweaks but that's it. (I run stock class at SCCA events)

@JC23 - I like that idea! Maybe down the road. It's all hardiboard, so it will last forever but I know the paint won't.

Garage door (insulated) installed today and final building inspection scheduled. Once I get past that I'll start on the electrical.

Thanks! That's a good question. OSB on the walls, with some pegboard over one bench area. Not sure about the floor yet, if I'll go with epoxy or just paint it.

I have a 6x3 wooden bench in the 'old' garage that I'll move in. My roll-away tool chest and a few other smaller metal cabinets and shelves. Compressor, welder, collapsible table saw will all go in too. I guess I need to start thinking about laying it out as soon as I get some lights in there.

Inspector signed-off the final building inspection. Started painting the soffit yesterday and electrical is next.

UPDATE: City inspector just passed my electrical work. Time to insulate and finish the walls.

I installed (6) T8 fixtures and hardwired them in. I also installed (15) 20-amp outlets and a Liftmaster 3800 garage door opener.

Great looking place Sammm! What did you sheath the roof with? At first I thought it was standard plywood but I see it has a shiny underside. Never saw plywood like that before. What is it?
You guys are lucky to be able to use Romex. Here in my part of Illinois everything has to be in emt. Makes changing or adding circuits easy but is a pain bending.

Nice job!!!!!! I think I would have gotten rid of the tree between the fence and the garage however. That might make thing ugly down the road.

The city frowns on cutting trees down and so do I...shade in Texas is always a plus! I cut it back far enough before the build and can keep it trimmed...shouldn't be an issue.

UPDATE: Finished insulating the walls today...ceiling is next, then time to cover them up.

Great looking space and good to see another DFW person on here--there seem to be quite a few of us. I really like the Zip Walls--I'd bet they result in a really weather tight and low draft structure. I will be keeping them in mind when I eventually get to build a car barn (Need to put the flames out on my checkbook from the new house first).

Thanks, but don't forget about the Mustang. It is a tight building. After a 14 degree night, it was still 52 in there yesterday.

Just viewed your thread for the first time, nice build. I am going to do a 20x30 in a month or so. I see you used a fair amount of steel in the concrete. I was going to use the the fiber reinforced mix and just steel in the footings, wondered if you considered that? Maybe I should look into more steel.
