Hello Garage Forum,

I am excited about starting on my dream garage. My home garage was converted to a 4th bedroom many years ago. We needed the room for the kids (4 rug rats). The kids have finally left the nest and it is now just the wife and I at home. Yeah!

The garage will be a 42x38 with two garage doors. 10x8 and a 18x8. I will also be installing a car lift in the 10.8 area, a Greg Smith Atlas 9. (Please add you opinions on the lift). The ceiling will be 9ft in the 18x8 garage door area and I will have a cathedral ceiling over the 10x8 car lift area. The lift is 12ft tall. I am also install a sink, shower, and a commode.

I will be paying cash as I build the garage. My plan is to completely finish the outside of the garage. The inside will be unfinished for a given time. It is all about how much money you are wanting to spend.

We have started on the foundation and plumbing and we are almost done. We will be pouring the pads sometime next week.

Let me know what you think and please offer any suggestions, but remember I am a working man.

Here are first pictures of my garage:

Nice name (playhouse) and good luck on the build.
Are you planning on installing anchor bolts for the lift prior to the pour?

No plans for any pre-concrete work for the car lift. I called Greg Smith Lift and they said to build the lift first, then drill the anchor holes.

I would love to have the 67 goat in my bay. I have a 79 vette that will be parked there. My vette is looking for a big brother.

Has anyone done a split ceiling---60% at 9ft and the remaining 40% vaulted? I would love to see pictures.

Over the past few days the plumbing for the sink, shower, commode, and outside water has been installed. The bug man can to spray for termites and we laid our plastic and wire down. The concrete workers did a great job. The cement truck did a little damage to my asphalt drive way. The ground was too soft to drive on. I was told that if the cement truck got stuck in my yard, I was responsible for the tow truck fees. No thanks.

Also being about degrees outside, the cement pant was sold me a 4000psi mix. I had originally planned on a 3000psi mix. This and a few other things have already put me over my expected budget. Oh well!

If you come by the project, beware of Molly the guard dog!

Congrats FIRST on getting your house and home back....I still got another 12 years - if I kick them out at 16!!! Congrats second on the shop - I like the sounds of it being two heights. Yuo are SO gonna love having a shop and lift!!
My shop is the single most satisfying time I have right now. Unfortunately, due to work and kids, I don't get more at than a few precious hours a week in it :bounce:

How about a small garage door on the back of the garage for lawnmowers, and a breeze. We put one in and it's nice to be able to keep the mud and mess from going in thru the front. Also made a couple of screens for the small door to keep the bugs and a nosey groundhog out.
