So i went to sams today and got the last CSPS 61" diamond plated box they had. They told me they do not plan on carrying the 61" box anymore.

Got in at $950 +tax and overall I think it was a good value. It seems to be decently constructed, the ball bearing drawers are nice and there's definitely no lack of space. As mentioned in other posts top lid does need a handle that I will have to add.

My friends who helped me transport and unpack it both thought it was well made. We agreed while not Snap-On or Mac quality, for consumer use it is MORE than adequate.

The exterior is all stainless, but inside the drawers is regular steel.

I included a picture of it that is not mine, but of the same unit.

The only reason I got it is because I found this form and realized what a mess my garage is and wanted to start cleaning it up. This should be the first step towards that process.

I like that tool chest as well. I look at them at Sam's Club all the time but unfortunately they have them up on the rack so you can't actually try out any of the drawers.

Good luck on the garage organization. It's an ongoing task for most of us.

Yeah, I climbed the racks so I could somewhat try it out. They already sold the display model for this unit, so I had to test out the 46" unit. When they told me they were not going to carry it anymore I felt like it was too good a deal to pass up, and had to act.

I'm like a kid in a candy store when I go into Sam's. The wife says she needs to run to Sam's to pickup groceries, so I always volunteer to go. To me..... they seem to be constructed a lot better than the Craftsman cabinets, plus they come in diamond plate/stainless steel.

Great buy!

That puppy was tagged $1,075 at our local Sam's Club. They are sold out. Our Sam's does not carry much in the way of tools any more. Nothing I need anyway. In years past most of my Christmas gift hints were for things my wife could get at Sam's. This year I am registered at Sears.

I looked at that one as well, but ended up buying their 46" model one in black, seems to be well made. Now just have to buy more tools to finish filling the drawers :) Also, at my Sams club that was only $700 and change.

your Sam's club has them in black?

I definitely would have preferred something with a nice power coat instead of stainless. At first glance it still looks like a piece of restaurant equipment. Though it will grow on me.

I got sick with the flu the day after I got the thing, so i haven't had a chance to finish loading it

Nice box

And with Winter coming on it's the perfect time to finish it out with shadow box drawer liners.

Makes keeping track of the tools very easy when clean up time comes on those days when you've had 5 cars and their owners in the shop doing mods :)

Actually I intend on getting some tool foam for the box, I just need to load it up first to see what will go where.

I bought one of the incredible 304 Stainless Sam's boxes, also, and then within a week or so, when they came out with another design, I bought one of them too. Then, as I began to load my tools into my new treasure chests, I became aware of a severe design deficiency that makes me want to dump these Chinko Junks every time I open a drawer. C'mon, am I the ONLY one who sees why these toolboxes ****?

well, can you explain exactly what ***** about the box? For a home user who doesn't really have the cha-ching to blow on a comparable Snap-On or Mac box?

Nice, I really like the dimond plate. Makes mike old red craftsman box look boring

I was thinking the same thing. Not about yours though. LOL!!! I really think I need a 61" diamond plate box but I know as soon as I go to the closest Sams they will have already been sold out. That's what ***** about the nearest places being in other towns.

I looked long and hard for a toolbox as well, including the ones from Sam's and Costco. If you ever load those 61" drawers full of tools, you'll quickly learn what gbick is talking about. My entry level Craftman boxes drove me crazy with the drawers binding when packed full of tools. I kept going back and comparing everything to the Snap-On and in the end there was no comparison. I couldn't justify the cost of a new Snap-On or Matco for home use, but I easily justified picking up a very lightly used Snap-0n 55" for $1700. It's solid as a rock, you can pull a drawer out and stand on it. With the drawers fully loaded, they still slide like butter, it should last me a lifetime without any issues.

Sorry for not replying right back, but I've been away from the computer for a few days. You will notice that the bottom of each drawer is about 1/4" above the bottom of the drawer front. Thus, each drawer wastes that much depth. Every time a tool is just a little too tall to fit, or snags the drawer above it, I curse these stainless wonders. On my vintage Snap On box, the drawers are the full depth of the front panel and I get all the storage space I paid for. Yes, they seem well made for the money, but until they correct this glaring design flaw, I will not buy another. Greg

I just measured the drawer. The bottom is actually raised 1/2 inch. This a significant space loss- particularly on the smaller 2 1/2" and 3" drawers which are actually only 2" and 2 1/2" deep. Pisses me off. Greg.

You're right, they do cheat you a bit with the drawer height. And that extra fraction of an inch has givven me a few problems with putting some stuff in the smaller drawers.

Even still I've loaded it up for the most part and for the price I'm still happy with it. It's no Snap-On or Mac, but it's good enough for the home mechanic who happens to have a metric assload of tools. The drawers seem to be holding up fine to the weight i've put them. I put all my "heavy" tools in one drawer and it's holding up fine.

I'd still reccomend it to anyone who doesn't want to drop a few grand, but wants a large tool box

I just purchased the 61" CSPS tool chest at SAMS. The keys were lost. Does anyone know where I can get replacement keys? There is a number on the lock. But I can't figure out who to contact to try to get a set of keys. Who is CSPS? I keep hearing that Hammerhead is the actual manufacturer. Any one have any ideas? I could just drill out the old locks, but I would perfer not to. HELP!!!

Just a suggestion for a tool box substitute that will take the weight of your tools,,,go to auctions and pick up 2 or 3 drawing files. The ones that are sized to hold D and E sized drawings will take a lot of weight. My wife's nephew used to work at a Snap-On store in a mall in Toronto and he did his sales pitch on me. He sets the drawers of this monster tool box like stairs and then walks up them. Can't do that with a Craftsman, but you can do it to one of those old drawing files !

I went into Sam's club today to purchase the 56" CSPS tool chest (stainless steel diamond plated) and was disappointed to learn they were sold out with no intention to stock these again. In my despair I hopped on the internet to search for availability elsewhere and stumbled onto this thread. However I've never seen the 61" tool chest. Did your stores also carry the 56" and 41" wide versions? Anyone know of a distributor in New England who carries these (or another Sam's club). I'm in southern NH.

Jay50,
Snap-On tried the mall stores as an experiment. The one I went to closed and I'm not aware that they've opened any more stores. It was a neat store while it lasted, kind of like tool heaven ! There were fully loaded cabinets so you could walk in and they'ld try and sell you a package. The one my nephew tried to pitch me was $20K when he was done !
