The 4ft led's from sams come with a cord and pull chain, how is everyone wiring them up to a switch? Cutting the cord or installing plug in ceiling or how?

I installed a 2 outlet plug for each light. I think it was a total of 18 plugs. Also allows me to add more easily when needed or quickly swap out any that have failed. Didn't see the need to hardwire and cut up a good cord for no gain

Im looking at these for a 24x40 shop with 15 foot ceilings. I have to run electrical still but added outlets for each light seems like alot of extra work. I didnt know if the lights could be hard wired easily. I plan on buying one and looking at it, was just going off the pictures online.

you can't hardwire these like you could the old fluorescents. you can try, however taking these apart proved to me how sealed and delicate they are. I simply shortened the cords, tiestrapped them to the very short chain (2 links) and they look fine. I wanted them mounted to the ceiling like my old 8ft fluorescents however with my 13' ceilings and 2 chain links, nobody can tell they aren't nor does it really matter honestly. Give it a whirl but don't be surprised when you just realize its not worth the hassle.

I hung 18 lights and wired 40 plugs in my shop in less than two days. 52x84 under roof and 40x60x15 enclosed. Most of that was working off the loader of my tractor. I think I got to where I was talking about 3 mins per outlet. Doesn't take much time and is a nice clean install. My shop is a pole barn so no conduit, just ran the Romex and hammered in holders as I went so it was tidy. Where in tx are you?

I mounted all 6 of mine near switched ceiling outlets. No need to defeat pull chain, I just leave it "on"....

I just took out the original light in the ceiling , cut a 7/8 hole on the 5" round blank metal flat cover, and use 1/2" strain relief cord connector... cut the 3 prong plug on the lights and connect them directly to the ceiling box.... looks cleaner that way.

7/8 hole is for the 1/2" knock outs. those new carbide hole cutters are really nice and clean on these soft metals.

the 5" cover plate have 2 versions 3.5" holes and 2.** something screw hole ones... make sure you buy the correct one for your ceiling box. 5" cover plate covers the ceiling box nicely in case the box on the ceiling is not finished nicely to convert to plugs. which in my case it was a ****** job from the contractors.
