Samson 5268 Vise

My wife called me the other day from a sale and asked if I wanted her to get this Vise. Yea, I liked it. I cleaned off decades of grease and really liked the results. It's in awesome condition and closes cleanly.

So finding information about the Samsons is not that easy to come by, from what I've found. If correct, it looks like they were sold by Sears maybe in the 20s-30s. One poster thought they were made by Rock Island.

So, just wondering what you all think or know about this vise.

hmmm... had a reply earlier that's disappeared.... just throwing it up for a second look. What do you all think of the vise?

Had a 5” a while back. Believed to be rock island as well. Thought what I found said sears 1915-1925 or something. Not much info. Damn good vise though .

Check the top of the slide/beam just behind the static jaw. Rock Island date stamped their vises Month/Year. I believe they are Rock Island made for Sears.

Well I don't see that. Both jaws are marked on the side opposite the swivel nut with "58". The bottom of the base is "72C". From what I've found I don't think date marks but maybe something else that might confirm the maker?

I have a Samson 5264 I got several years ago at a garage sale. It's a beast!

I also have a Samson and it's my keeper vise. I've sold a few Wilton's but this 5202 is for keeps.

Note the thick jaws and the crisp knurling on them.

Left side has a 97 cast into it and there's a 97 on the jaws as well. Rock Island number perhaps?

Yeah, I got it for $20.
