Just don't buy any item with magenta spray paint. (contaminated)
They shouldn't release anything like that for off site use.

Anyone here going to be bidding?
What are the chances of a normal person getting Lista/Vidmar cabinets are good prices? Do "full" drawers go for more than an empty one? Might price an average person out?

That is some insane machinery, I want to go look just to drool!

Is that shop and all the big equipment just to maintain the plant or was it left over from the original build?
Are all Nuke plants outfitted like that?

most likely the stuff that was used to maintain it.

most plants will have an on site maintenance team to perform their daily list of things that need to be done, emergency repairs and anything that doesn't involve days worth of work to complete. then they call in contractors so they can keep their crews free. if something breaks they want people on site, who are familiar with the plant that can get it back up

the ammount of equipment at a nuke plant would surprise you...

I work at one, and the tool issue room is a tool junkies *********.

Everything from normal hand tools (we have lots of Proto) to heavy equipment, fab equipment, anything you can think of.

And yes, anything that was used in the radiolocial area will never be sold like that. Its considered low level nuclear waste. No worries on it being 'hot'.

LOL  I rattle canned all my tools at work magenta a couple of months back.
I thought the girly colour would stop them growing feet , Company tools, not my own .
That and the fact that we had about 14 cans left after a project, and we will probably never use that colour ever again.
Now i'll have to make a nuclear waste sign for my cart... :lol_hitti

Nuc plants are getting real old and many will be having a hard time getting parts for things, so I can see the tooling deal. Reading up says that San Onefre isn't going to restart 2 and 3, so they are going into a long term decommission and don't need most of their equipment. Hate to see nucs go offline. One of the lots I saw is a chart recorder that looks like a re-badged unit from the company I used to work for. We sold a lot of instrumentation to nucs. We were on the front lines of Commercial Dedication for nuclear use because it was just getting too expensive to supply the plants with nuc specific equipment and parts.

78Bird, I'm guessing you're at McGuire? Think we used to have recorders (Westronics) there, Oconee, Crystal and Brunswick but that memory is gettin' old. Duke was s good customer.

Wow...in order to bid onsite, 500 dollar deposit is required. To bid online, you have to wire a 1000 dollar deposit!

yea the terms of this auction kinda ****. i might have driven up there but 1. i really dont need more **** and 2. i dont like the idea of giving a deposit just to get a number. and if you look at the online deposit, you lose 25 bucks when you get it back  wtf

Question for you guys that work at or are familiar with the nuke plants:

Are they allowed to do heavy machining/fabrication work on the plant equipment (I'm not talking about the radioactive side), say machine a new shaft for a water pump?

From a regulatory standpoint, I would have thought that any parts would be have to come from the pump Manufacturer for proper tolerances, materials, mill certificates/traceability, and even third party inspection.

I hope someone gets some good deals.

Regards,
Anthony

Reading the history on the place is infuriating... sounds like it is closing due to some sub-standard updates sourced from Japan, and now deemed un-repairable. If there is anything CA needs, it sure ain't less generating capacity!

Your gonna see more plants closing as they become to expensive to maintain and operate. They better start building more new ones or we won't be able to afford the electric. (ie. propane)

That was part of it. San Onofre started having problems years ago after failing a NRC inspection, thats when the outcries began, personally, it made me a little nervous too living so close to the plant.
Another thing that *****, besides the fact that we need that plant, is more unemployment, which we don't need. A buddy of mine, an excellent Ford tech, left Ford to become an Engineer there. Years of school, living off the wife's income, moving to a smaller house with the promise of making very good money there. 3 Weeks after finally getting to work inside the plant they announce it's closing. A lot of sacrifice for nothing.
I found out about this auction thru a neighbor who worked on the plant when it was being constructed. He & I are going to go check out the preview. I wouldn't mind picking up some Lista's but have to wonder if some company is going to come in and swoop them all up with a bid nobody can compete with. It wouldn't surprise me.

Yeah kind of sad to see it go... On one hand safety is important, but on the other hand it's going to **** for those two thousand people or so that lost their job, and the higher cost of electricity for people...

That equipment looked to be in very good shape. I would imagine most equipment didn't see much use, nothing like a production machine shop....

If my memory serves me correct SCE decided to shut it down after some recently (few years prior) replaced pipes on heat exchangers started failing.
