Hi All,
I need some help with my sanborn blackmax 80gallon 5hp 2 stage compressor.
it will not turn on, dead as a door nail, no buzzing no nothing.
i tried checking what i could and am at a loss, i could really use some help!
i took the covers off and i have 117v at each pole but the magnetic start/contactor will not go down.
i tried pushing the contacts down with a screwdriver but nothing.
when i push the contacts down i get power to everthing but not even a buzzing sound?
the pressure switch has only 2 wires going to this model and the power is connecting at the contactor / magnetic start box
I have tried everything i can think of but need some help.
It was suggested that i come here and that you guys can help point me in the right direction.
any assistance would be much appreciated!

Does this mean you measured 240v across the motor with the contacts down?

If so, and the motor doesn't run, you have a bad motor. If you aren't getting 240v at the motor, you have a problem ahead of it.

First let me start by saying thank you!
Without you I do not know if i would have thought to check the voltage at the motor itself. This turned out being a wiring issue, loose wire at the motor. Also found a loose wire before the motor, offhand not sure which a fault caused the issue itself?
Thank god it didn't cause a fire.
This compressor I purchased for my work shop in the mid 90's and has held up very well. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was just a loose wire from all the hears of use but also a little scary so I plan to Check all the connections this weekend.
Meant to add I measured 117 across both contacts so at that point knew wiring was screwy?
Thanks again and I will make sure to come back soon, after some sleep :)
