I have a lot of minerals in my water. Everything gets white if a lot of water evaporates on it. My evaporation cooler is crusted in places. I would like to blast the stuff. Any suggestions on a media that will work in my portable sand blaster and not stripe all the paint?
Thanks

There is no media that will clean the scale and not remove the paint or other coating. Even walnut shells can remove paint and scale can be tough.

A product like CLR might clean the mineral scale...........and not do harm......but scale cleaners are often some sort of acid which could effect the base metal. That said the base metal is likely corroding where the scale is as a process of nature.

I have a swamp cooler also and I just bang on the panels to knock a good portion of the mineral build-up off. A stiff brush, nylon and not wire bristles, takes care of a lot more. Since it is a continuous process I don't get so carried away with trying to get it perfectly clean. It will just get scaled up again.

If you want to clean it up more, any acid type product will work. Any blasting will remove the paint, or at least what paint is left.

That's my situation also
Air knocks off a lot..
Just thought maybe I could do a better job especially in the nooks and crannies.
Thanks for the replies. Good to know I am not alone.

Anyone tried power washing? Or, does it not do anything to scale?
