I used 2 Harbor Freight 1000 lumen lights (SKU # 57945) mounted in the top of my homemade blast cabinet. I sandwiched a piece of 1/8" clear Lexan under the lights to keep them protected.

They're plenty bright. One mistake I made was mounting them in the hinged lid. When opening the lid to load or remove parts, I get blinded.

You can see the round hole between the lights that was for the earlier, incandescent light

I switched my fluorescent tube for an LED tube, made a big difference even with the frosted glass in front of it.

O.K. Well I will start with an LED tube light. See how that works then add the extra lights inside. I assumed the lights get hit with all the sandblast dust. I used a industrial blaster at work and the 2 big glass domed lights got regularly nailed to a nice honed surface and the light output diminished so I had to regularly change out the globes. Guess it is a standard issue. I will check out the videos and Harbor freight lights too. Thank you for the replies.

Hi I switched out the florescence tube with an LED light tube. Got more light. And I went to HF and purchased 2 1000 lumen work lights and mounted them today. I used automotive wire loom jacket to protect the electrical wire from the lights to the outside of the cabinet. All looks good. Turned all the lights and looks like I will have a better situation than before. Going tomorrow to purchase 1/16 inch Plexiglass to protect the 2 work lights and install them. Appreciate the help and guidance here on the forum.

Hi, Today I got to Hobby Lobby and purchased a few sheets of Acrylic clear sheet 1/16 thick. Great price on it. I cut 2 pieces and fit them in the front of the new Harbor Freight 1000 Lumen work lamps suggested on the forum. That should protect the faces of the lights. Next I will see what I can do with a ******** to allow the sand to migrate back to the bottom of the hopper. I took a sewing machine motor and made an off balance round disc and attached it to the shaft and bolted the motor to the front chute panel half way down. It shakes quite well but do not know how long it will last. Might just go ahead and buy a ready made one. Will have to see. Going to test unit out in the next few days and report back. Only thing left will be to enhance the sand feed system. This unit is a Econo-Blast cabinet I purchased a few years ago. It has the vee tube with the hole on the bottom to **** up the blast medium. It came with an industrial bag house that came with it but not for it. It had a funky 460 volt motor and I had to find a 110 volt unit that would fit the blower squirrel cage shaft. I built a home made vacuum cleaner one using a Home Depot pail and water baffle to enhance the dust issue. Will post a few photos soon. Thanks.

Between the new work lights and the LED factory one I now have I think great lighting. Going to test system out soon. I am looking to purchase a pre made vibrating motor /shaker but looking for someone who has one and likes it. Price point between $55.00 and $119.00 would like to see what you get for your money. Thanks.

Hi Finally got a job to do in the cabinet. Lighting suggestion above works great. Thank you. I am out of blast media now. Any current suggestions as to what folks are using now? My last load was Alumina Oxide. Works O.K. Any suggestions welcome. Mostly using cabinet for rusty automobile parts.

Glad you upgraded your lighting, it makes all the difference !!
late to the party but here is my desktop build & upgrade, still working it today !!
Eastwood Benchtop Blast Cabinet Item #30721 Assembly

as for media, i buy aluminum oxide and glass bead
i have 3 mixes, 1 all alox, 1 all glass, then a 50/50

i would start a NEW thread with Media recommendations or such as title, as anyone seeing this will think it is about blast cabinet lighting !! I always start a new thread when the subject changes !!

what i used to clean up parts when restoring my 1929 & 1930 plus other parts :)

alox is great for semi aggressive cleaning rusty parts and cleaning them up, glass is great for sheet metal and good clean finish on parts that i usually do not paint (aluminum casting parts), then 50/50 for things in the middle semi aggressive cleaning and and smooth finish. I get my supplies from Norton, since we have one locally :)

also note that alox comes in various GRIT !! as do most medias !! https://nortonsandblasting.com/abrasives-media-and-grit/

I use a 100W incandescent bulb- keeps the media nice and dry and bulbs last a surprisingly long time. Makes a difference in how the gun siphons up the media.

I use glass bead, but I keep some walnut shells (reptile bedding from the pet store) for polishing

I have a TP Tools ******** on my harbor freight cabinet and the funnel angle and length is so steep and short that it doesn't allow for enough vibration transmission to move the media.

Thank you. I am out of blast media now. Any current suggestions as to what folks are using now? My last load was Alumina Oxide. Works O.K. Any suggestions welcome. Mostly using cabinet for rusty automobile parts.
