Sandblast Cabinet Pickup question

I just picked up a Princess auto floor model sandblast cabinet (same as all the Chinese ones out there). One thing that surprised me was the pickup tube for the sand is different that what I had seen previously. I know there were issues with the old design and a lot of guys made some simple mods to improve it. The new one is a single tube with what looks to be a second tube inside it. I just watched the video and it shows just sticking the pickup tube down through the grate. It doesn't mount to anything. Found this odd. Does anyone have this style? How does it work and are there any changes I need to make to get this to work properly. I would prefer to have it mounted solid. Have never seen this way of doing it.

Just jam the siphon tube down into the grit. The top has to be exposed to air. The inner tube is where the grit gets pulled up into the gun. The outer tube is an air bleed to allow air down to the pickup so it can help move grit up to the gun.

Maybe I should clarify...not so much "how does it work?" How well does it work? I know the old style weren't great but worked better with some modifications. Wondering if there is an improvement to be made here. I have seen some guys who have set up to pull from the bottom as well...not sure if thats an avenue worth heading down..

I think SkatBlast sells, (or sold), a kit to rejuvenate /improve the function of these cheap imported blast cabinets.

This has a new style pickup tube from the ones you are thinking of. Was hoping someone had one that is the newer style to see if it actually worked well
