Its becoming a fairly common swap into VW's over here so there must be companies out there making adaptor kits to fit to bug gearboxes etc.

Obviously its just the motor and transaxle going into the sandrail...lol. We were going to put a hayabusa motor into it, but the owner changed his mind.

I would search around to see what adapter plates people have already made, and see if the trans it mates to is what you are looking for...if not, have one made yourself

wait, so your making the sandrail AWD? if that's the case, just use everything from the Subaru and modify your driveshaft and axles accordingly

No, he is wanting to mod it so where he can have the engine rear mounted and RWD using only the subaru parts.

I dont see why you couldnt just set the engine/trans in it, remake mounts and just connect the rear wheels to the front outputs of the trans.

iirc he would need to weld up the center diff so he would have full time power to those front axles. also, normally in a rail like that you would have the ****** towards the front, so you would only have 1 forward gear and 5or 6 reverse gears lol

I know for the audi AWD transaxles you have to blank off the back part of the ****** with a blank off plate that will hold the rear of the shaft. Just wondering if something like that would be need for the subaru.

This guy has the right idea. That's the way I've seen them done. Make a block off plate for the propeller shaft (I think that is the FSM name for the rear driveline).

there is this:
http://www.bremarauto.com/products/subaru-2wd-conversion-kit/
however it is in aus., but is does exist so that gives you something to look for. I believe factory five racing may have an adapter kit for this as well.

or alternately I know there are sleeves available to convert to a rwd output only on the transmission as well (was thinking of one for my impreza way back) search for a "center differential sleeve"
