I am looking to store all my motorcycle jackets (most are leather and heavy) in the garage in a wardrobe cabinet. I was leaning toward NewAge as I already have a couple Pro - tall cabinets and wall cabinets and know their quality, but the price is around $600. I can get a Sandusky - larger (46" wide x 24" deep) and on casters for $290. I know the Sandusky is 20 and 22 gauge vs the 18 gauge of the NewAge Pro, but the NewAge is only 36" wide and has no casters.

The question is, will the Sandusky handle the weight of heavier jackets?
I can only find shelf capacity, nothing on the rod itself.

Here's the Sandusky unit:

A round rod should be able to handle a fair amount by of weight just because of its shape. I have 4 motorcycle jackets in one of my new age cabinets.

Also to add one could easily replace the rod with something heavier.

If you want more cabinet try StrongHold.

I know there are heavier duty cabinets (as noted in my original post, I currently have NewAge Pro (18 gauge) but for this application (jackets) I'm looking to see if I could go from a $600 cabinet (or a lot more for a StrongHold) to a $300 Sandusky cabinet.
With 20/22 gauge of the Sandusky, even if the rod could support without bending, can the walls where the rod connects handle the weight.

I guess I'm looking for someone familiar with Sandusky cabinets and perhaps their wardrobe cabinets.

I would not store heavy leather jackets on a coat type hanger, over time the top of the shoulder will start to pull apart from the weight. I have 2 and I store them folded in the bottom of a stand alone closet in the basement.

mite not be a issue if you wear them every day.

Good point ezover. I use extra wide gear hangers specifically made for these jackets - they spread the weight over the shoulder armor - haven't had a problem yet.
