This project is going to be gifted to my son-in-law and my daughter.
He is a avid bowler and the core of this is a piece of lane that he bowled on, before it was demolished.

It will be 14"wide x40"long

Now then, a tandem bike is called a 2-seater, so is a tandem foot rest a 2-feeter?

I think I'll wrap the top with 2" angle iron and pin it with some old rose headed spikes.

The legs will be 1" square tube.

Here is a couple pics, one being a couple elevation sketches of what i think I may do.

Sweet project! I like the design and the sentimental side too. Capping the edges will look really smart. What kind of finish you going for? The stool looks like it'll be right at shin height...maybe rounding the edges a bit might save some profanities!

it's stuff like this that sets us apart these days. Ya you could go into debt and buy the guy a new tv or something. Making something with your hands that has a piece of his history in it...That's the difference!! Good on you!!

Don't you know!

I'm with you, I'll bevel the corners to reduce the suture count!
I was thinking rust and oil on the steel and maybe aquafortis on the wood maybe

iboc,
Making something for somebody and having them enjoy it makes it special for both parties.

Thanks all

Got the legs cut today

Oh yeah that'll look sharp! I've been a fan of mustard staining and bees wax lately. Try it out on some scrap pieces and see if you like it.

bbcc,
I have not used mustard stain,if you don't mind, what is the procedure and what color does it bring out?

Thanks

Grab some run of the mill toxic yellow mustard, not the gourmet kind just regular ol Heinz or whatever. Lay it on the steel. Make whatever kinda pattern you like and let it sit for a couple days. Wipe off the mustard and you'll have a forced patina effect kinda like bluing. I don't have any good pics right now of what I've done but google has way better examples. I like to seal it up with bees wax after but pretty much anything would work.

Thanks bbcc,
I'll have try that.
Got the top frame and legs welded out today.
Also got the top pinned to the frame.
I think I like the effect of the rose headed nails around the frame.

NICE looking table royce! Did you weld the leg's to the cross piece's, or are they free floating? Did you build the top? Nice work. Looking forward to seeing how the walnut works in.

Thanks Tarnished,
The legs are welded to the cross pieces.
The top is a chunk of bowling ally lane I demolished last summer.
To mount the feet, I welded nuts inside the legs.
I went back out this afternoon and got the feet bored, counterbored and bolted up.
Good day and hopefully I'll get some finish on it tomorrow.

Great looking table! If it were me, I would have the metal parts either chromed, or powder coated.

Thanks James,
Got it finished this morning and are pleased with the results.
Now,I'll start on a dining table for MRS Clause.

Not sure that will be able to handle the loads a coffee table sees on a daily basis.... ha.

Very nice, looks like it will last a couple lifetimes. Question tho, why did you use a different species for the feet?

Thanks LX

Tarbellb,
To my eye, the contrast of maple on the feet is too strong and the walnut looks good with the rusty legs.
Thanks

Nice work. Love the details like the angled legs and 45 corners. Those add charm and lots of time.

Thanks bbcc and xyster

Even after sketching a design, I never know how it will look in real life.
This one started out on paper being kind of busy, but not so much in reality.
While the pics look OK, something always seems to get lost in a photo.
For some reason, this one strikes me quite handsome.
