Sargent & Greenleaf 826C Military Lock

Not finding a lot online for such a lock. It is beefy. What limited information I can find is that this likely was for use on ammunition caches, perhaps? Wondering if any of the sages of GJ might be able to confirm that the "1974" under the large US is a date code or not. I saw a similar one with "1976" so I'm guessing should be year of mfg. and the other one indicated Nicholasville, KY as the place or origin, rather than Rochester, NY. I was dubious about the Medeco key being original, but has seen others with the same, and the caveat "US Military Property - Do Not Duplicate" on the key itself, and presume Medeco to supply the actual cylinders to these. Does this all sound about right?

I used to pull guard duty at the ammo bunkers at Fort Polk, La. But those ammo bunkers were never locked, the thinking being the time might come when ammo was quickly needed but nobody knows where the O.I.C is. That said, the Army locked up plenty of other places.

The patent was awarded in 1973, so, highly likely.

This military padlock, made by Miracle Lock Company, was given to me by a friend when I was in the service. I suspect he acquired it somehow when they were phased out for newer locks, I believe it dates to no later than 1971/2.

The attached PDF mentions both Miracle Lock Company and Sargent and Greenleaf.
