Sat and Cable, on same line?

I have satelite TV and last week the cable company trenched in a line for Cable TV. I called them and similar package for TV will be about 2x the cost, so not going that route.
BUT, I can get internet for same cost that I pay now from phone company through them. I would go from 128k to 3MB connection.

My house is all wired to where there is one COAX that runs outside to connect all the rooms.

Will it be possible to have both Sat TV and cable internet on that one coax?? I'm not sure if it works like the phone line where internet, voice and even TV (yeah we can get TV through the phone line, but it's more $$ than the dish) are on the same line.

you are screwed...if you don't have rg6 coax,sat co won't gaurnte sig.ty the two together and sat sig will degrade.

you dont need coax all through your house just for internet, just have the cable co bring coax into the house wherever and put the cable modem and wireless router there and youre good to go. no need to touch your existing coax.

I have cable internet that connects to the existing coax throughout the house, and a separate coax circuit just from the satellite dish to my living room where the TV receiver is. Don't think you can have them over the same wires.

I've put cable and satellite on one cable by using a channel 3 injection box. However, the satellite receiver had an RF remote that worked anywhere in the house (and everyone had to watch the same satellite channel, but that was not an issue...)

A diplexer is made to do just what your asking. You use one on each end of a single coax, combine two signals into one and the diplexer on the other end will break them back apart.

I've used them in the past with varying success. Sat+HD antenna, Sat+analog cable have both always worked great. Sat+digital cable, and Sat+cable modem have both worked and not worked when I tried it. Satellite has good equipment standards in north america, but cable companies are all over the place in both transmission equipment and frequency ranges. As well as how sensitive their digital equipment is to when it comes to splitting, combining, or amplifying.

In my area I have been able to get Sat+Cable modem down the same wire with a pair of diplexers. Cheap enough to be worth a try.

Although like previously mentioned, no real need to have coax everywhere, just runs wireless. The routers are getting much better with range and speeds these days for real cheap too. Although a hardwire connection is always more consistent, to make the move up from 128k to anything is gonna be a substantial increase.
