So I dont own many snap on tool (3/8 dual 80, 1/2 dual 80 and a hard handle ratcheting screw driver)

All items have been great and performed great but last week I somehow snapped the #2 ACR Phillips bit tightening a screw. I wasn't torqueing hard either. Long story short, I figured I'd have to purchase a new one so I called snap on and told him I snapped mine and he told me that bit is under warranty. Even though it's small, it made my day when the new one came in the mail.

Do you have to buy the tool from the website or a truck to get the warranty? I.e. are second hand purchases warrantied? What about new tools bought through ebay?

Technically only new tools purchased from the truck or website have a warranty, and it is only for that original owner. However, unless you are trying to warranty a bucket full of 50+ year old rusty snap on tools, they generally don't care (website or truck). Also, the if you mail in to warranty, they are usually much more particular about abuse, where as if you have a good relation with a truck driver, they will overlook that oftentimes.

But, everything is YMMV. I've never had a problem with getting any of my snap on warrantied, including a 1/4 drive T-handle that was my grandfathers (drive end was wearing down on the corners and wouldn't hold a socket). I told them it was my grandfathers and I didn't buy it and they were still more than happy to warranty it for me.

Or, as one snap on rep told me, "We like to be able to trust our customers, but it's not always possible for everyone, especially when they have an entire set that needs to be warrantied and they don't want to send it in."

They don't really have a way to keep track of that. Especially stuff I've bought 25 years ago. Plus I've had more than a dozen Snap On dealers throughout the years. They don't know where or who you've purchased your tools from.

I've bought plenty of used and broken Snap On tools from other people and from ebay. Snap On warranties all of it and it shouldn't matter where you bought them from.

Well I was amazed they sent me a new bit. I think it was 3.00 off the site when I bought it.
