Good morning,

My dream of building a nice shop has finally became a reality. There has been a ton of progress made, and I have a slew of pictures that I will be sharing in the weeks to come.

To start off, I decided to go with a 36' X 40' pole barn style with 16' eves and two roll up doors big enough to fit my toy hauler and fishing boat.

The attached pictures show the site prep beginning with the cutting down of a couple of large 100' plus fir trees. The guys who climbed the trees had some big cajonies!

The attached pictures show a couple of differnet angles from where the site prep will begin. The excavator is going to have to make about a 5' deep cut in the back of the site area to get everything leveled out. There are a lot of rocks that are going to come out of this ground!

Excavation work has started! There are a ton of large roots, and as expected, there are piles of rocks being pulled out from the pit. Never the less, major headway is taking place and things are moving along nicely.

Load after load of rocks are coming out of the ground. Certain rocks are being seperated for a retaining wall around the entire shop. The rest are being taken to another job site that the excavator is currently doing.

Numerous broken teeth have been lost off of the excavator bucket. But the operator keeps hammering away and is impressive to say the least.

Nice start, and I'd love to have those rocks. Around here, that amount and size, you'd be looking at quite a few thousand to buy.

The excavator guy has done a great job using the rock for a retainer wall around the shop. I will post more pictures tomorrow of the retainer wall. The site prep looks excellent!

Post holes are dug, footings have been poured, and frame will begin.

Framing is coming along great. The retaining wall around the shop is made from all the rock that came out of the site prep. The excavator guy did a great job!

Shelf girders are installed along with roof insullation and roof. The shop location is really looking great along with the retaining wall around it.

I finally got the rest of my photos transferred from my camera to my laptop. The shop construction and concrete is done. All I have left is the electrical which I'm planning on starting the bidding process soon.

Since these pictures were taken, the cyclone fence in front has been taken down so that I can park my trailer and boat inside. I have also had gutters put on.

Very Nice! Looks like you are going to have an amazing place.

Would you mind sharing some details like broken down costs and your plans / dreams of how you are going to layout the inside?

Thanks for posting and Keep up the great work.

To date, I'm about $ 37,000 into the entire project. That includes all of the site prep work (Including 6 loads of 1/4" minus rock), concrete, doors and gutters. With the excessive amount of rock, the site prep ended up coming in a little over budget, but the excavator guy worked with me, and was very fair.

Next on the list is electrical. I currently have a couple strings of 110 light bulbs up around the peremeter that provides ample light to spend my evenings.

As for the layout of the shop, I need to start playing around with different configurations, along with the location of a loft.

With the excessive amounts of rain we have been getting, it was time to put in some drainage. I ended up running 50' of corregated drainage pipe with an outer sock sleeve. I was quite a bit of digging, but turned out well by the time I finished. I was able to see my results yesterday, as we had a 30min. monsoon.

I also had a good sized rat come barreling out of the rock wall. Scared the S*&$ out of me....Luckily, I had a quick reaction time and was able to smack him with my shovel before he crawled up my pant leg.:lol_hitti

The time for electrical has finally came. With all of the wet weather we have had, it has made things fairly messy to say the least!

The electrical is complete and I couldn't be more happy! They did a great job, and it is nice to be able to start organizing things and have adequate light to do so!

It has been a while since I have posted any pictures or updates. I have been busy relocating cyclone fencing, putting in a garden, building a play area for my daughter, all the while trying to get out and do a little bit of fishing in my free time.

I decided to add some additional parking space by taking out a section of grass, spreading out 20 yards of 5/8- gravel, and putting the fence section back in with a 10' access gate along with a walk through gate at the corner of the shop.

It turned out pretty well..... I dug up a few stumps while I was at it, and played hell with a manual post hole digger. Luckily the ground was fairly soft from the rain, and I missed hitting some of the huge rocks that I have routinely found during this process.

I am very happy with the way that the gravel packed down nice and tight. It went fairly smooth considering all the cyclone was re-purposed from a different location on my property, along with all the hardware. I only had to put in the new vertical posts.

The last picture shows the new location of where the garden and play area will be put in.

After searching for over a year, we were able to find a used solar gem green house for less than 1/2 of the cost of a new one. This thing is awesome...We planted everything from seed this year starting them in the green house, then transferring them into the ground.

The upper corner that we picked for the green house to sit was quite a chore to dig out a level spot. Once the excavation by hand was complete, we laid down some red flat rock, along with some white river rock. I am very happy with the outcome.

We installed a fence around the perimeter to keep the wild bunny rabbits out. I drove down some schedule 80 thick wall tubing 5 feet into the ground and weld on a decorative gate for the entrance.

Next project was a play house for my daughter. The wife found a smoking deal during last year's "Black Friday". I thought it was a good deal until I started opening up the boxes. Each box (7 total) contained a separate set of instructions that not necessarily went to the items in the box. Also each box contained approx. 20 - 30 bags of hardware.

What a nightmare.......The instructions were worthless, and the engineering of the plastic curly slide must have been drawn up by a guy with a diploma out of a cracker jacks box. Never the less, I was able to complete the project in a matter of 3 days including the foundation that consisted of about a 3' elevation drop.

The daughter could not be happier.....That's what it is all about!!!

After months of searching, I finally found a nice used stove on Craigslist. It is amazing what some people want $$ in regards to a used stove.

An hour of cleanup, and a can of high temp stove paint, she looks like new!

I had to get a little creative on the outside wall bracket. I didn't want to have to go through the ceiling, so I went with a through the wall kit. Problem was, my eves hang over so much, I had to make a bracket 2' off the wall.

All in all, I am very happy, the Stove drafts and works like a champ!

Nice looking build! Are you planning on insulating at some point? It's crazy how many large rocks were unearthed by just digging down 5 feet! They sure do make a nice looking retaining wall, though. I've been trying to decide your location, I'm guessing eastern Oregon? Or maybe Washington state?

I am currently in the process of insulating and putting up sheet rock..... What a job. At the rate I am going, it is going to take all winter. In the long run it will be worth it!

I am located in Washington State.

Thanks, for the feedback:)

Well it has been a few months since I have posted, but never the less I have been busy with insulating and sheet rocking the inside of my shop. It has been a long process, but is turning out great!

I installed cement board behind the wood stove, then finished it off with rock tile.
