Save the tile

Okay, this is not garage related. So sue me !

Friends of friends, a young couple, bought and 60+ yo house. There is an addition that is about 10-15 yo, with a bathroom that has 12" square tile floor over 3/4" plywood over a crawl space. The toilet was not installed properly and has leaked, rotting the plywood.

Is the anyway to cut the floor out around the toilet and save the tile so that the whole bathroom does not have to be re-tiled ?

No ...and maybe. Depending on the size of the grout joint get a grinder or an oscillating multi-tool with a grout blade (not cheap!) and cut the grout joints around all the affected tile. Once that is done very carefully try to pry up those few tiles. If the ply has started to rot they might just come up. Once all the affected tile are up cut out the bad ply. Glue and screw reinforcement boards below and then patch the plywood and re-tile.

What Tim said. And you can also replace those few tiles with new ones. Get ones in a similar thickness, and maybe a medallion, or something along those lines as far as design. Lots of options.
