Yeah, shipping can be a pain. But what part of Jersey are you in? I have some car-collector buddies in eastern PA. Maybe I could talk one of them into holding it for me for a while. They drive down to my swap meet twice a year...maybe I can arrange for delivery! Ha.

Ok. One of my buddies lives near the Cabela's store...is that route 78 in PA, maybe? The other lives more north, in Hazelton. Both of them go to the big swap meets in the area, including Englishtown, NJ. I'll ask them if they are anywhere close to you.

The Cabela's would be Hamburg, PA. About 2.5 hours away and would be the closer of the two.

First of all, let me say you deserve the "biggest **** of the month" award. I just can't believe your luck!

I believe Frank is correct 9998 Master Tool Chest. That one has 4 drawers. I can't tell from the photos if your box has 4 drawers. The 9998 cost $37.85 in 1940.

It doesn't surprise me that the color might be different than the catalog pictures. Plomb sometimes reused artwork even as they changed designs. That green is an original color.

Did the tools come with it and are they Plomb? If so, you're contender for "**** of the year".

So what did the scrapper take for it?

This is the first time I've ever said: "I wish I was in New Jersey."

It looks like the No. 9998 Master Tool Chest from the Plomb 19R catalog, page 16, only that one is Chinese red. Very nice!

Wow. Just saw this thread...

It does look like a 9998, but I think it must be earlier than the 19R catalogue.

I'd guess ~1934 based on the round "O"s in PLOMB TOOL CO" stamped on the cover along with the presence of "LOS ANGELES".

Damned cool find & You ****!

um ? gentlemen any idea of the value i think i might be wanting to get rid of/ trade it

Tough to put a value on those since they're fairly rare, but there's also a rather small market for them... plus, as you mentioned, shipping can get expensive.

I'd guess you'd have little trouble getting $200 for it, perhaps more.

If I'm wrong, I'll give you $175. I could be there Saturday by noon and I'll even buy lunch. :bounce:
