Sometimes the best time to go to a garage sale is the day after its over. Looks like that box was at an old factory that was being remodled. Great find.

i spend 15 hpurs a week there

I love scrap yards, back in my hardware hunting days I had a route of half a dozen or so I'd check on as often as I could. Every day is like Christmas morning, opening stuff up and looking for treasure.

OTOH I don't think anything tool related would last 10 min in a SoCal scrap yard.

you'ld be amazed the things poeple send to the scrapper in jersey

I'm sure we have the same kind of stuff "sent" there in SoCal, but I don't think it would get past the guys doing the hauling here. As soon as they get the truck loaded their are on the cell phone to various buddies sorting out who gets what, sending picts etc.

:lol_hittiWhat time will Bull be there this morning?:lol_hitti

Another nice score Congrats!!!

The last time I was at the scap yard, the guy next to me threw off 4 old rusty Craftsman hand boxes. When they landed I could tell by the sound that they were full of tools. When he left, I went over to check them out. Thinking that I had stumbled upon a great score, but they were full of China/Tiawan junk that looked like they were fished out of a river somewhere. I've never seen tools so rusty, so no great score for me.

I wonder if my scrap yards will let me poke around.

Sometimes they flat out don't want anybody poking around in stuff, but almost all of them like money, so offering to buy something makes a nice ice breaker compared to just wandering around the yard or asking if its OK to wander around the yard. Expect to pay double or more compared to what they paid.

You have to wonder about people sometimes...did they not know what old Gerstner boxes are worth, or didn't they care? A little glue and some elbow grease, and that box should be good to go.

Well that is what I was thinking. I checked Gerstners website, and all of the replacement parts are still available. I plan to glue the broken parts back together, and try and do some refinishing on the wood. If I do, I'll start a new thread on that project. Stay tuned.

Nice find, Turbo. You guys are making me jealous!

Thanks.
