A project I'm working on is in the demolition phase, and this was listed to go.

I spoke to the demo contractor, and he let me take it just before they demolished the room. I'm putting it back together in the garage. I had to take it apart to load it onto my truck. It was in a high school science lab room with 4 turrets, I don't think it was worked too hard.

It's going to need a new motor, the original is 3 phase, and I'll need a starter.

TK: i'm not sure if this will work, but since you are planning on putting a new motor on it this might be cheaper and you can use existing motor. I think it's called VFD or I may have the initials wrong and it's about $150 to power up your 3 phase motor off 110 or 220.

by the way that is an awesome looking compressor and since I don't own one other than a little pancake one for my nailers i'm doubly jealous.

nice save:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Stick with your plan to swap the motor, I wouldn't recommend a VFD or other phase converter for a compressor, they work too hard. Great score, I've had what I think is the same compressor, on a bigger tank, for more than 25 years. That one will probably outlast you, with a little maintenance.
Good luck, Jim

Neat find!! Any idea what the CFM is?

Coincidence that my son just bought that same compressor but with a shorter tank, his came with a "Leeson" 2HP motor 220 volt.
His came out of an armoury that was being tore down.

What's the inside of the tank look like?

Dan

I haven't taken the inspection plugs out yet, but when I took off the drain valve, I got gallon of water, clear as tap water.

Neat find!! Any idea what the CFM is?

This is what I've been able to find, 20.2:

I'm looking a Baldor motors to replace the 3 phase motor, anyone know the advantage/disadvantage between the L1410T vs. L1430T?

If you haven't heard it run you will be impressed. Pretty quiet for such a large machine

Good save. Kellog is a good compressor, head valves are rebuildable, slingger ring lubrication, good cast iron crankcase and cylinders. I have rebuilt a couple of these units many years ago. Be sure you match the RPM on the motor you get with the 3 phase that is on the compressor now.

Great find!! Regarding the motor, +1 to what ragtop says; phase converter on a compressor is not a good application. Get a new capacitor start, single-phase motor.

I have some choice words for you ... But I will just say, you ****!!! :)

I was looking on Amazon of all places for a Baldor motor. They have a L1430 or close to that for 550 bucks. That is new , no tax and shipped free if you have Prime. I t would be a good replacement. 5 hp, single phase, 1725 rpm. I don't know what fleabay pricing is like for motors, but just an option!

You can get a Baldor 1410 or 1430 for about $350-$375 on e-bay including shipping. Maybe less if you get lucky with an auction instead of using buy-it-now. I bought a 1410 from this seller -> http://stores.ebay.com/WECO-GROUP?_trksid=p2047675.l2563

Wow. That is a lot more affordable than I thought. Thanks for the link! I am always on the lookout for three phase compressors.

Man, if you were in Dallas, TX I would sell you a nice TEFC Baldor 5HP 1725 RPM that I have sitting in my garage for cheap, just to mate it with this vintage beauty!

Oh, by the way: (You ****) x 10^6
