Wow couldn't believe it! One was an old parker 958 and the other was an old Morgan #80

I bought the Morgan :bounce:

I am not to familiar with morgan's. I searched and didnt find much info. One thing that struck me as odd was in the past I have always seen them marked 'morgan chicago'. This one only said Morgan if I remember correctly. It was so big my brother inlaw took it home for me as I drove the wife's car lol. So I gotta go get it tomorrow. It also has removable jaws more like a parker than a morgan. Instead of a C shapr they are more long on top and short on bottom but also at an angle. Never saw one like that.

Any good info out there about them?

I'll get pics up. I pick it up tomorrow.

I cant find any info on this thing. I dont recall it saying anything but Morgan and #80.

Sounds like from

29-47 they were located in Chicago
47-70 in Aurora
and 70-present in Milwaukee

But I have seen examples of all of those with the places also stamped in?! Also what about the weird jaw inserts?!

The only thing no perfect about this guys is there is no handle. Which I dont mind at all.

I paid 300 (talked him down from 400) and honestly dont mind at all. This makes my 6" reed look like a baby and easily weights every bit of 200 lbs. And the screw turns like BUTTER even with no handle.

I'll get pics up tomorrow but just wanted to say somehow I missed that it sayed Morgan Chicago.

I am still very curious about the jaw inserts though.

PICS!

Sorry nothing for scale right now, its not even unloaded yet lol. From front of handle knob to end of slide is 30". Really is huge. Note the handle knob is round. Others I have seen are cylindrical.

Check out these jaws? Never seen a Morgan like this. Never seen an 8" Morgan at all actually....

They also pin in from the top just like a Parker

Also the Text doesn't look like others I have seen

Thanks fellas. I have been looking at all sorts of pics of Morgans and I cant find any with the round handle knob, weird jaws, or the plain text. I am thinking this must be a very early one or something.

Dustin,
From what little I know of Morgan, the fact that yours is a Chicago (rather than Aurora or Milwaukee) should mean that it was manufactured between 1921 & 1947.

Wow cool. And that one has the standard jaws and cylindrical handle knob! I cant tell is that a Chicago, Aurora, or Milwaukee? That used to be a swivel?

Its a chicago, no swivel. I'll take some better pictures this weekend. I have a sickness, whenever I see a morgan I buy it.

Here another different style of jaws I have never seen on another morgan vise.

I have seen a few of those, but I dont know the rhyme or reason or date range. I was just meaning it looks like your 80 used to be a swivel but had the base removed.

I do see they have a different shape base now. If it were a swivel it should be stamped 180, mine is just an 80. I would guess you have an earlier Morgan than mine. If you ever want to sell it let me know, I'm also looking for a 60 and 50.

Wow! :shocking:

That is a monster and very, very impressive. The jaws look incredibly stout as well and I have to say I've never seen that before on a Morgan vise. Excellent find!
