Saw blade question.

I have a Grizzly G0561 saw.
The manual states that this saw requires a blade 93” x 3/4” wide.
Can a 93” blade X 1/2” wide be used?

My neighbor brought over 10 boxes worth of new blades. My buddy who has a blade welder on his band saw said he can cut these to length for me.
Thoughts on this?

As long as the blade guides can be adjusted for the narrower blade there is no reason it physically couldn’t be used. Some saws can have the rear guide wheel adjusted in and out and some can not. The blade is going to center on the drive wheels so the guides need to be adjustable to where the new track is. A narrower blade is also going to want to wander more as it’s not as stiff so it really depends on what you are cutting and how accurate the cut needs to be.

I’m not sure if the guide blades are adjustable like you said to center on the blade itself.
I’ll check it out this weekend and see what I can come up with.

Anything can be made to work on a bandsaw.

Their literally made to accept different blade widths for various jobs.

ETA: Just looked up your saw. I thought we were talking vertical band saw, with a horizontal you will need to be extra careful of your down feed pressure to prevent the blade from warping if it cant cut fast enough for the feed pressure.

This could lead to ****** crooked cuts or even break the blade.

That is a horizontal metal cutting saw. I believe the blade wheels are cast iron with a lip on the side away from the teeth to guide the blade.

On those the teeth do not run on the wheel, unlike a wood cutting version. They must run off the front edge. Narrower blades may not be able to be supported from the rear by the guides.

Are the blades he bought over metal cutting blades or wood blades. On those saws as KenC said the teeth run off the edge of the wheel otherwise they will wear the wheels very badly. I would try one and then decide if its worth it and see how straight the cuts are.

I just looked at a picture on the Grizzly site. It looks like what KenC mentioned is going to be the problem. With the large blade the teeth hang off the edge of the wheel. If you put a smaller blade on it the teeth will be digging into the wheel. Take a look at how the blade sits on the wheel and you will see the problem.

I agree with the others, it will not work with a metal cutting band saw as they do not use tires on the wheels like a wood cutting saw does.
