Saw Homak box for the first time

Happened to go into our new Northern Tool store for the first time. I've never seen the Homak boxes before, but I was surprised at the quality for the price. I personally don't like the look or drawer layout of them, but as an entry level box, they make the Craftsmans look like garbage. The drawers were fairly beefy (much thicker metal than the Craftsman) and the 4 inch and deeper drawers had dual slides.

I do not like the layout of most of those but I own the 41" pro top and bottom. For the price I strongly believe it is one of the better boxes in that price range.

I own the h2pro 56 and i can't recommend it. I've had it apart a couple times to fix the sheet metal tabs on the back of the drawers so the locks work. The locking system is a joke. If someone pulled with light pressure, they would all pop open.

The layout also isn't pleasing to me.

I owned the 36" top chest for about six months and sold it as the drawer layout was too constraining to be of any practical use. The drawer detents were also rediculously tight...the metal thickness was stout for the price range.

There are a couple of ~5yo ~41" Homak boxes at the school i teach at. They are well above the junk status that some Craftsman/Husky boxes inhabit but i think they are inferior to the HF 44 and the Milwaukee 46 i checked out recently for the same money. I've had to fiddle with drawer slides a LOT as i dont feel the attachment to the box frame is adequate. It's possible their new stuff is improved as the 41 they show online now looks different from what i've worked with.

I have a 3 stack Homak box that I payed more then those boxes 20 years ago. I'm only now outgrowing it. I found out when I was shopping around that the quality was better then craftsman, (not comparative to a pro box) perfect for a home box. Mine has roller ball sides which was found only on the more higher end boxes(at that time). I never needed to have the slides replaced but the rubber draw stops are all gone.

I would recommend it over a craftsman box any day.

Been using a Costco purchased Homak for over 20 years now. It's okay, not great. Steel quality is there, build quality is okay. The sliders are not ball bearing on mine, but the newer ones are. The paint finish on mine is poor quality, but again I think the newer ones are much nicer. It was good for the price, but I'd take a HF tool chest over my Homak in a New York minute.

I don't replace it because I have a hard time spending money on something I already have that's working just fine. No it's not real nice, but it's doing it's job and has been doing it's job for over 20 years; done.

I have the H2Pro 56 top and bottom. For an auto mechanic I would look at other drawer layouts.......But if you dabble is all things fun....auto, electrical, pluming, wood working and general tinkering, then this isn't a bad box.

I can't recommend homak over the HF boxes for roll cabs but the homak 18in and 22in cantilever portable boxes are really good for the money. Unfortunately they are sold online only.

I've had the H2Pro 36" bottom at work for a couple years. I've had no problems whatsoever. A few guys at work have their cheaper boxes, they haven't held up so well.

I don't think Homak boxes are sold anywhere near me, at least I haven't seen any. They look nice.
